I'll be there then. In my second week at that time. Maybe I'll bring a grill and we can get all the students from all the classes together in the parking lot and cook up some burgers or steaks.

Alrighty, just put together my travel itinerary. For those who've been through the whole Indiana, Chicago, Illinois, and Wisconsin toll road thing; would you mind taking a look at this route I just put together. Any comments, feedback, headaches I'll have to deal with would be appreciated. Thanks

My goal is to avoid Toll Roads like the plague, on account it's gonna be difficult enough to pack enough money for the gas, food and laundry.

Looks fine to me; it's basically the same route I would take, and your route through downtown Chicago is the same one that Roehl has its drivers take. Unless you plan to drive through Chicago during the late night, plan to encounter quite a bit of congestion going through there. Traffic is usually pretty heavy even in the middle of the day (even on weekends) and there's areas of road construction going on that just add to the fun.

Note that you'll be going almost right by the Gary terminal; if you have 10-15 extra minutes and want to see it, just take Indiana 912 north off of I-80/94, then take the first exit to W. 15th Ave and head east for a couple blocks...it will be on your left just after you cross the railroad tracks (and where the road becomes as pockmarked as downtown Beirut). You can easily see the terminal on your Google map view if you zoom in, just look for all the red trucks -- NOT orange, that's Schneider's terminal. :) (The satellite photo was taken before the terminal building expansion currently underway).

One correction. Take exit 136 county road BB go west and you run right into Appleton terminal. It will be on your left right after it changes to 55mph, after some trees. Construction company will be on your right across the street from Roehl.

No detours on any of that construction? My estimated time for arrival in Chicago is between 2 and 3pm. Would you say 45 mins extra travel time added to that estimate of 6 hours thanks to Chicago congestion? Or worse? Might not have the time to spare for Gary terminal. Wouldn't mind saying high to my classmate that headed out before me... Anyone sees David, say hi for me :)

Thanks for that. My recruiter has me routed to Comfort Inn and Suites, where I'll be staying. According to her directions, I'll be dropping the car off at the airport car rental company nearby; being led there and brought back via shuttle.

Set up for RDTC in Phoenix in mid-September. Looking forward to driving flatbed/skateboard and doing a little physical work to stay in shape at the tender age of 56.

No detours, just lane closures and lane shifts. Depending on what gave you the estimate, the congestion may already be accounted for. But an extra 45 minutes can't hurt.

I'm originally from Chicago, and know that stretch of highway very well. You're going to be driving through one of the worst traffic areas in Chicago, right when rush hour is mounting up. I would anticipate much more than an extra 45 min (if not accounted for by the map program)...possibly a couple of extra hours...no joke.
