Two week notice?

"Pure dishonesty"? I am a new driver with Millis and I must say that, even though I am brand new and I'm sure I am about to be burned at the stake for even commenting", everything Millis has said or promised has been 100% true. I sat at a dock waiting to be loaded with my trainer for 10 hours waiting and only had 2 hours driving time for the day and did not get paid for that day....guess what....the instructors told me that may happen. 100% honesty is what I have experienced so far. Millis has some of the best equipment out there, it looks great and if it's broke, they fix it. They also have a higher than average pay grade than many companies and I have talked to many drivers that have been with Millis for years and are very happy.

At this point, I am very happy with the training and how Millis has treated me so far. I have met many of the staff in BRF and all seem to be ready and willing to help in any way they can.

well I tried to come up with a reason to lynch ya except I could,nt been here 1.5 yrs they have not up to this point been dishonest with me sure at times I disagree with them but outright lying nope to me not yet pay is fair by industry standards and I don,t think Samurai or IndianaEMT are saying they are a bad company they have just had bad experiences and maybe in there dealings they may have been lyed to I have met both and to me they both seem to be honest decent people

 

Interesting thread ... I too am in my last few weeks at Millis and moving on for various reasons. Millis is a defiantly a great company to start out with I believe. The direction it seems to be heading towards however just doesn't fit what I am looking for so decided to move on. Never been dishonest with me, but I have had a lot of mistakes on my payroll in the past few months that has bothered me a little bit, just shouldn't have to worry about that kind of thing. Other than that I have been treated well, got home when I needed or asked. The pay is decent when you are just starting out however seems to start falling a little behind as you get a few years of seat time compared to other options out there. Overall it has been a great experience and would still recommend people to their training program if they are looking into becoming a driver.

 

Kind of surprised at the response here related to Millis not being Honest because of camera's and Safety issues and you have barely 1 year of time with Millis or as a driver in general. Understanding that sometime "time" doesn't always mean experience but let me offer this......

I sat through the class related to the cameras (during a Train the Trainer Class) and was told the same thing, Millis cant access the cameras at free will. That is true. The service that monitors the cameras can and will look often at your operation(s). They then report (immediately, in some cases) what they see as potential issues(s). So it's not someone at Millis that is watching you.

Safety - You should have received a QC message or written letter stating you had a preventable accident no matter how simple it may seem to you. Dont agree with it myself in some cases but it's their policy.

Just because you dont agree/understand doesnt make them dishonest. I have been here going on 4 years and yes, I dont agree or like everything that happens, but never have I been lied too.

Agreed. It amuses me when companies throw the term "experienced driver" around so lightly, especially as a recruiting gimmick. One year does not equal an experienced driver in my book. Yes, I have some experience and miles under my belt, but there literally is just so much stuff to learn out here that I can't consider myself experienced yet.

 

For the most part the only party overly concerned about experience are the insurance companies. Otherwise to everyone else is objective. In my case I grew up on a 5k acre farm and learned how to drive at the age of 10 from my step father on a 1977 KW. Drove that for many years from field to field and once I had my farmers permit could drive loads into the grainery. I am 36 now .... but I have 1 year OTR experience. So its objective considering for myself I consider myself pretty well experienced with driving but a company and insurance sees the 1 year OTR. To me honestly it doesn't matter. What I have learned is many drivers like to use it as a measuring elitism stat however. Great for those who do, myself could careless lol.

Not a fan of the cameras in the cab/bunk, but won't be of any concern to me after this week. Each person has their opinion on that as well Millis still a great company and enjoyed my time there.

 

Did they lie about the other preventable too?

 

Called today to give my notice, my dispatcher asked why? I told him....he said he would try and fix it and to give it try! Kudos big time because I really didn't want to leave in the first place! Hope it works out and I can stay! Wish me luck.
