I have my tragus (little part that sticks out in the middle of your ear) pierced, I was told no visible piercings. Is this just during orientation? Do any male TMC drivers have any ear piercings once they are put on their own?

I'm trying to figure out if I should get clear retainers for these piercings until I get my own truck or if I am just going to have to let them close up.

I'd find another job. I have ZERO tat's & piercings, but I would still refuse to work for anyone that wanted that much control over my personal life.

Many drivers compare working for TMC as being in military basic training again.

Wow. Sounds like they wouldn't like me very much.

I'd say get clear retainers until you have your own truck, or at least until you know your trainer is okay with it.

Perhaps I am totally wrong, I am guessing that earrings or any kind of jewelry would be a serious safety hazard. The military, along with many industries, have serious safety rules about wearing jewelry when operating dangerous pieces of equipment or machinery.

I have to AGREE. I myself have ZERO tattoos and piercings.

I have come across companies that REQUIRE an individual to cover up all tattoos on their body. If the individual has a tattoo on his forearm, it must be covered up with some kind of covering as a bandage or moleskin.

1 example of this is QuikTrip, (large convenience store chain in the Midwest and Southeast, NOT sure if they are in other parts of the U.S.A.).

UNFORTUNATELY, many people with tattoos will comply because they need their jobs to both support themselves and their families.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

I was a real wild sailor & back then hitting the foreign ports in the Orient and hard partying, getting tattooed, chewing betel nut was acceptable...sure it was! Anyway, I wore a long sleeved shirt to all interviews and landed a good job with a company that had a no tattoo policy. A few months later the terminal manager saw a tattoo peeping out from under my shirt sleeve. He said if I had known you had those, I wouldn't have hired you, but since you're one of our best drivers, I'll let it slide now. On a side note - if you have back pain or arthritis, gout; betel nut works wonders.

There is a lot of prejudice against people with tattoos, men and women alike, both sides of the fence.

Having or not having a tattoo does NOT determine how good of a worker or human being the individual will be.

Thank you for the tip on betel nut.

It's usually NOT a question of the employers attitude........it's his customers and your fellow employees that might be offended. It's a rotten deal and I agree with Boardhauler but I also have to eat.

The employer is going to default to the safe position and not hire a potential problem that has to be dealt with later even on a maybe.

TMC and the rest are going to have to man up....there is a couple hundred thousand soldiers coming home over the next two years and many will want trucking jobs....and many have tatoo's. Employers want to bang the military drum saying I want you then this is what you get.

Yes there are some safety concerns but that's with rings , bracelets and hair. All that can be dealt with easily like take it off or pull it up. I'm paying a man to do a job, not look pretty.

This should solve the "shortage" of truck drivers all throughout the United States of America, especially over the road, (OTR), truck drivers.
