Alberta Bound no women are rare in the oilpatch. You might see one a day and they are usually the onsight medics. If you are already scared about sticking out like a sore thumb i highly reccomend you don't get into it. It does not matter whether you are a smokeshow and look like beyonce or 400 pounds and have more body hair than the men. You will deal with sexist comments behind your back every day. Lonely desperate men that havent seen women in weeks are going to stare at you like a piece of meat. I personally have lots of respect for women in the oilpatch and don't belittle any of them. But that is extremely rare so be ready for it.

I totally disagree, women are treated very well in the patch.

Those that have some prehistoric prejudice against women simply don't hire them, for the most part the rest of us treat them with respect. There's always a few goofs around but the guys have to put up with their nonsense too. A new woman may get more attention at first than a new guy but no reason to expect it to be inappropriate in any way.

I also disagree with username. I won't say I see hundreds of women on any given day but there are plenty out there doing nearly every job and doing it well. With your background in the force I'm sure you have encountered enough neanderthal and developed a method of dealing with them. Of course having better hand to hand skills 5han most roughies can't hurt if they won't take no for an answer

Cannot say I agree with username either. Women are around the patch, operators, drivers, medics and even on the rigs roughnecking. Some people will always say behind the back stuff, snide comments no matter what your gender is. I found most crews with a lady tend to be more protective of her than anything. Make a snide remarks about the girls who swamp and drive for supreme and you could eat a pipe wrench. A sonic driver did.

Thanks for your replies, and insights into my previous question. Good to hear, and thought provoking.
Does anyone know about Bill Birch oilfield services out of Grand Prairie? I think they work out of Fort nelson and dawson creek, and maybe other places too, but if anyone knows about them, would you send me a pm?
Thanks for all the answers, info, views, etc. It has been a big help to me.

Hello everyone! I am 28 with Class 1, been driving Super-B flat deck and hoppers for 5 years out of BC to AB and beyond. Prior to that I drove a 5 ton truck carrying welding gasses and propane. I am seriously interested in heading to the patch as i am tired of the OTR long haul. I have a free place to stay in RedDeer as I have family there. What would you suggest for me to pursue. Frac crew? Hauling fluids? Coil? I am out in AB every week so I could swing by a few places dropping off resumes no problem. Anyways! Any input would be awesome thanks guys!

They are all hiring like mad right now, best to get here, throw resumes at everyone, online and in person, get your foot in the door in something and look around, learn about each job and then decide what you may want to pursue long term. If you like driving, fluid hauling is good, if you don't mind working outside part of the time, frac is ok... So many flavours...

Hey all,
New to the forum & was wondering if anyone has feed-back on Canyon Technical Services. Trying to get my foot in the door of oilfield trucking. Many thanks in advance!
