Like I told Sharpp...You will have issues anywhere you go, but at least I can honestly say that nothing has come up that we (JCT and I) haven't been able to resolve to mutual satisfaction. I feel that is an important point. I know JCT is in business to make money...if they weren't, they wouldn't have lasted as long as they have. But I feel comfortable that I can be successful and make my money right along with them.

Reefers really aren't what I want to do but its moved from the no column to the maybe.

Thing is I'm in the NE, near Phila Pa, and don't want to get stuck running up here or that stinking rotten apple.

You should be away from the area most of the time, unless going off duty for home time. Think about it this way; while other freight (dry van, flatbed, etc.) is affected seasonally, reefer isn't affected very much at all. After all, people gotta eat! People love to eat...America is FAT (me included)!

No, we can get work done wherever we want. There's probably a law that would disallow a company from forcing it's contractor's from using only their shop. Last week was the first time that I have EVER had service done by JCT. They treated me well, like a customer. They have improved in the last year from the discussions that I heard in the shop. Their shop rates are very competitive too. I'll probably still get my oil changes done at Bosselman or Petro (I like the free hats!), but anything else will be done in Sapulpa, if I can get there.

This truck I got one of the prior ops put Centramatics on it and what a world of difference. I think they will be "must haves" on any subsequent trucks I may have.

I've been in Columbia's, Century's, Cascadias, W9 and a T600 and they all shook to some degree but this has nary a shake or shimmy up front.

We can choose when and where we get stuff done on our trucks, as long as we are positive in our maintenance accounts (if you want the service paid from your maintenance account) or if we are paying out of pocket. If you want it paid from your maintenance account, the charge has to be $150 or more, and you still have to submit your receipts. You can pay out of pocket and submit your receipts, or have an efs check issued, but for the efs check, you'll have to call break down first. Then the shop will call break down, get approvals for the work, etc. Breakdown cannot see if you are positive in your maintenance account, that's why it's sort of a hassle. You can always choose to pay for services out of pocket, and just save your receipts for your taxes. If you are negative in your maintenance account, you'll have to go through breakdown, and they have all authority in deciding where you go and what you get done at that point. After all, JCT will be floating the loan then. The cool thing is that so far, they haven't charged any interest on maintenance negatives. I hope this helps?

I came over from dry van. One reason that I started this thread was to be a resource for people interested in the reefer side of trucking. There are other threads here about the positives vs. negatives of reefer and dry van. In my experience, reefer freight is heavy, but it's usually in the 25k to 40k lbs range. I hauled everything from styrofoam to talc to kitty litter in the dry van. Heavy was 45k of beer, light was 2k of popcorn. Reefer freight is a lot less pain than I expected too. We never have to work a pallet jack and we get points from reefer fuel on the card same as tractor, lol. I had a case of chicken refused that last time that I delivered in Vegas. Company said to dispose of it, so I gave some to my grill-happy neighbor and we disposed of it with some bbq sauce and Coronas! I'm still dreaming of a case of ribeyes being refused. . .

As for the NE, we do go there, but you would most likely be running in our strong midwest lanes. And with our 1000+ mile length of haul, a trip up there is strictly an in and out. For instance, one nice load I had went from Kent, WA to Allentown, PA for 2716 miles. Next load was E. Brunswick, NJ to Ft. Worth for 1604 miles. I don't like Jersey either, but quick in and out is cool.

Yeah, I have Centramatics on this one too. But the right steer had some cupping before and the left one had to be replaced over 100k miles ago. I got an alignment a few weeks ago, but the damage is done.

I wonder if JCT will ever decide to get any T680s or T700s? Of course I'd rather have one of those with a DD-15 in it instead of the Paccar or Cummins ISX. While I'm at it, I'd go with the 13 speed trans too.

I've been 20yrs in the NE and am tired of it! Lol...put my time in hell. Heavy doesnt bother me after 10+ yrs hauling steel. All the grocery warehouses I've been to with a van look at the driver as free labor, I'd like to kick the guy who came up with that idea. Thats my biggest hang up on reefers. But it sounds like that's mostly sorted for JCT.

Does JCT offer any kind of group rate medical? I know JB does for O/O and L/P. Sharpp, your thread interests me because I'm a numbers guy as well, having run a side business for many years it all comes down to the botton line. And having to buy private medical insurance takes a huge chunk out of the bottom.
