Lease/Purchase?

I do not like the scamgauge personally because it will not tell you the truth about what is happening inside your engine. It relies solely on the ECM sensors and they are the first to cause other bigger problems as your engine ages. That is perhaps for a different thread I think though. It is amazing how marketing pushes people around, especially if it comes from some guy who is partially helpful to truckers on the XM radio, then markets products that are supposed to be the miracle cure to everything, slapping their own name on them as well. I sometimes listen to that screw-ball during the midnight hour when I am tired so that it will make my blood boil from all the back-handed hidden marketing blather that guy spews mixed with helping mostly only those he chooses to let on the air because they want to bragg about his gratefulness like he is some kind of religious leader. I can hear the echoes of his voice now saying,...Buy my book,...Oh,...this means you have to now Buy my workbook,...oh yeah,,..you will never make it if you don't buy my CD's too,...oh yeah,..then micro blue EVERYTHING, including the drivers seat,...Oh yeah,...ONLY a NON-EGR Engine will make you any money, so go out and buy those gliders from fitzgrald that i get paid to push off on people,...oh yeah,. you have to attend my seminar,...and buy all kinds of self help books..oh yeah,.. you have to use my website or you will not ever know what you are doing so that we can sell the marketing data from you,..oh yeah,..you have to use profit-gauges too,..oh yeah that’s not enough,...I haven't milked your operation dry enough yet, so now you have to use ATBS,..because I want to spy on your business and sell that data too.

sry for the rant,..I really get mad at all the spew from this guys radio show with his sheepish followers.

you mean the guy who used to say the turdblo 3ooo was a no brainer WHEN he got a cut might fib to the drivers or the power box as well ,odd thing is when the driver runs a properly tuned engine for economy he saves almost as much as buying kr add ons most of his advice should be common sense to someone who understands economy

 

most of his advice I'd just that. common sense. and while I'm not a big kr guy, I don't think he his some big evil selfish being just lining his pockets hawking snake oil. I think of him kinda like a truckers version of Dave Ramsey, it's all common sense stuff your grandfather would tell you. the thing is, owner operator's are not the owner operator's of 20 years ago. back then our industry was filled with guys that grew up in the country, been on a tractor or backhour sense the time they were in grade school and rebuilt a few engines before they were out of high school. it's just not like that today. our society as a whole has changed, and our industry in particular. today's average o/o has never been on a tractor or other diesel powered piece of equipment. most the guys I talk to out here have never even had the valve cover of a diesel, let alone confidently be able to stick a set of pistons in one. that's his target audience. gotta keep that in mind.

as for the scan gauge, he has never said it's some magic fuel saving product, the only thing it does is put info you wouldn't otherwise have right there in front of you. the fuel savings is gained by using that info to adjust your driving habits. just using the instant mpg reading alone will save fuel if you are willing to change how you drive.

 

thanks for the input, but he has a cascadia. I am sure it has a instant mpg gauge and a trip mpg gauge built into the display. Those trucks are known for false charge pressure and unstable fuel rate readings inside the ecm. Makes a scan device unreliable. There is 2 more reasons I always recommend to stay away from them as well. First, a good mechanical set with its own sensors will reveal problems quickly, where the ECM will only output compensated results. Second is the fact that I have spoken to 3 drivers now with the special 'KR' version of that device who sold them because they saw no improvement over the boost and pyro set they already had in their dash.

I knew that post was going to start an argument...for the same 200 bucks its better to have a second opinion set of gauges than a gauge that relies solely on the first opinion of what's going on in your engine, telling you very little of nothing more than you can see in your dash already.

 

if his truck already has a built in instant mpg reading, then I agree it's not a priority purchase. mechanical pyro and boost gauges. but this does not make the product the scam or snake oil some say it is.

 

thats pretty good. I and my wife suffered for 3 years not idling to save fuel, then eventually got a used APU. I got pretty creative dirung that time and bought a small suit case sized generator and a A/c unit small enough to be run by it. It helped a lot when down in loredo, but it still would get sometimes 85-90 inside truck on days it was 110 outside. In winter we had a big cookie-sheet we would set up in between the seats of the truck and put 6 or 8 of those big 3-wick tall candles on it to make it warm inside. Worked pretty good, as those candles would last a whole week if you let them burn nonstop. Some would claim that is not that safe, but we were pretty diligent about making sure nothing could happen.

 

what kind of apu is it? many of them have an auto start/stop feature tied into a thermostat. also, you have checked the oil level in it right? it probably has a kill switch
