This is quite pretentious don't you think? 900.00 to driver doesn't really say anything at ALL. I don't even know what "8 hours a day" implies as well. Are you referring to 32 hours of drive time? If that is the case you are offering at about 45 cpm. Why are you being so pretentious and attempting to dangle carrots all at the same time?

You sir, have set off just about every alarm an experienced driver with small outfits has.

Explain to me how a guy fresh in LS could generate the revenue you do each month without the contacts you have acquired over the years? He surely isn't going to be able to do it with the rates I'm seeing broadcasted.

You want a guy who treats your truck as if it was his. You want a guy who treats the truck as though it was his blood sweat and tears that earned it, kept it, and maintained it. You want a guy who understands all the favors, and possible kickbacks to agents over the years. All the times you got so and so out of a pickle to get remembered for the good stuff.

You want a guy who is willing to do all of these things, but yet didn't lift a finger to earn it. Then you want to talk about smarts in a condescending manner?

Is it any wonder that I don't want to fit the bill for a BCO's extremely aged truck that I received no benefit from, but a maintenance bill?

I will give you another scenerio...330 mile run drop and hook to Queens NY...2200-2500 gross to truck..

330/60 MPH=5 hours of drive time.Know add an hour for NYC traffic you got 6 hours...After L/S cut, fuel and tolls i usually bring home 1448.00 on this one and my backhaul is 1000.00 out of New Jersey...Not bad for 2 days and then back home...

The first thing you are telling me is that you are operating at a profit margin of $1.72 per mile on this PARTICULAR roundtrip. The math on this says that you are getting over $3.75 per mile on ALL miles, before landstars cut and expenses, seeing that you stated it being HUB MILES. That would be over $3.75 per mile with FSC added in to that amount. I am curious. Is this a consistent rate you are receiving? If that is the case you are aware that you are implying a six figure income working at what amounts to a part time job at Landstar?

The question quickly becomes why would you want to farm it out?

Judging from your second scenario which you state that it is drop and hook I can deduce that you are not running your own trailer, and that it is most likely van freight. Is that the case? You are regularly enjoying rates of over $3.75 per mile for van freight?

As far as your hours are concerned. Your numbers allow for a maximum of 24 hours total drive time. You are telling me that you spent no more than 4 hours on a minimum of two loads at shippers and receivers. That amounts to one hour at each end of each trip, bare minimum. They way it is presented suggests that you had two legs going out and one leg coming back in. It really appears that you are referring to three loads and not just two. If that is the case we are talking 6 visits to shippers and receivers in less than 4 hours total time. You are also telling me that you averaged 52 miles per hour in the northeast while bypassing all toll roads. :biggrin_25523:

You know what? I never called you a liar, only called you out for being pretentious towards company drivers, and drivers you are courting to work for you no less. However, at this point you are taking things a bit far. Explain to me one good reason why someone qualified to drive for LS would not want a six figure income working part-time hours? Explain to me how you could pry that steering wheel out of any drivers hands...please.

Do I believe that such a run is possible at LS? Absolutely. Do I believe that such a thing is normal and consistent? I absolutely know better and so do you.

On this load you are quoting $6.67-$7.58 per loaded mile before L/S cut and deductions. And your math is wrong. 330/60 MPH is 5.5 hours not 5 hours.

Through both of your examples you are implying it is possible to make a six-figure income working part-time hours as a Landstar BCO.

Are you aware that I have seen both you and desertskies discuss LS rates in other threads?

Unless your on the Landstar load board your only seeing a small piece of the pie. Most of the best freight will not even make the load board.

My working rate is 2.25+ and less than 25k. Sometimes its only 1.80 but alot of times its 3.00+. For weight its usually under 10k. With no van of my own its about a 75/25 D/H,live load. I try to stay out until I hit 20-25k (gross revenue) then I go home. Im still at the point where I need to make money so hometime right now is not the priority it used to be.

I get most of your points but until your on the inside and being pofitable at Landstar its really hard for you to comment. Landstar has a big mix of drivers all doing thier own thing, thats the beauty of the business model.

I figured it would be a great chance for a well qualified driver thats still on the fence about becoming an O/O.

If they cant pass LS rules,, I don't want them driving my truck. Have you made any friends in the industry. I got 2 drivers lined up as soon as I buy a second and third truck. They can't wait to work for me since I can give them more money and flexibility then they have now.

Landstar from NYC was not arguing with you in his first post here. He was adding to what the OP had posted. You started the argument with yourself. Ease off, the OP was asking for advice on how to find a driver.
