I'm a student now in a great truck driving school.....I'm seeking my cdl class A and decided to get it now because this would be my only window to get the license on my own within the next couple of years......I'm hoping for the best as and I've heard a number of different suggestions, pros, and cons concerning my driving record in reguarding getting hired immediately...... I have a reckless on my driving record from 1 and half years ago...the reckless was for driving 81 mph in a 70 mph zone, and Virginia had just changed the law to ANYTHING OVER 80 MPH IS "RECKLESS DRIVING", even though it was only 11 mph over the speed limit....and I was not weaving in and out of traffic, JUST THE SIMPLE FACT THAT I WAS GOING 80 MPH I RECIEVED "RECKLESS DRIVING"..but the rest of the minimum requirements are met by all of the companies that I have looked at.......I do not have any felonies, DUIs, or accidents in my history (never)....I also have experience driving for a Unifirst for 4 years driving all over the state of VA.....all things considered, CAN I STILL GET HIRED AS A TRUCK DRIVER WITH THE RECKLESS DRIVING TICKET ?
I WANT TO BE A TRUCK DRIVER,.......but can I right now ?

I was hired on when I had a ticket for 16 over but it was about to drop off my record and was not marked as wreckless. Hope it helps.

I think 15 over is considered reckless driving by most companies. But since you're a student with no trucking experience it might be an issue. All you can do is keep trying. Do good in school, pay attention and try to graduate at the top of your class. Listen and learn. If you do great in school your chances might be better. Good luck

It isnt on my record anymore.

You know something, it is always on your record if a company wants to find it. Some companies hire investigation companies to do simple but thorough background checks and seem to find all kinds of stuff.Puppage Thanks this.

Im not worried I have been invited to orientation and to be on safe side i told them about it so im not worried.

Anything over 80 mph that results in a speeding ticket can be a problem with some carriers and their insurance companies. It won't make any difference after 3 years from the date of conviction. Before you spend money on driving school, you may want to spend time making a few calls to trucking companies that may hire you after graduation.

Give TMC a call, they will prob hire you...ask the recruiter

I must say that it will be difficult but there are many companies you can try. Try Western Express. they are regional and desperate for drivers. Dont give up though. If worse comes to worse, you'll have to wait it falls off your record after 3 years. then you'll be clean and will have your pick of companies accepting students. Good luck!

Surprised your school didn't have you check into getting pre-hire approval before accepting you into their school. Have you gotten any prehire approvals yet? It would appear you haven't. Maybe you should start trying to see if you can get any prehires now.
