I got my IL cdl June 28 a few weeks later I transferred it to CA, now due to many problems I need to move back but in Illinois you have to re do everything, like everything... So I was wondering since I held an IL cdl so recent and I actually still have it they just Punched a little hole in it..would i still have to retest everything or could I just cancel my CA cdl since my il still has many years till it expires...
If not, how do people get away with living and working in IL but holding a KY CDL...?

I'm not sure if testing is required, but fee remains the same, and is mandatory within 30days of new residence.

Bad news cometh...
IL is one of, if not the most severe state, when it comes to CDL requirements & testing. Even if you left the state for 1 day and had surrendered your IL CDL, you STILL have to retest everything (and pay all associated fees), as if you never even had an IL CDL.

Illinois you have to retake everything from written test to the road skill test.... I left Illinois a year ago and will never go back there to live because of this

Wow....
If I were to move to Kentucky (lived about 20 mins from the ky border in IL) would it be a problem to get a job on the IL side? Like do you have to have a cdl in the state you are employed? I wonder how my taxes would look.. -
You have license in the state you live, the CDL is good wherever you drive.
