I am from the Chicago suburbs and was wandering what kind of rates per mile you all are seeing on load boards.

When i did Chicago on a steady diet i never went back to NY or East Coast under 3.00 a mile and never will...This is van rates all day around chicago...Even when i went to Kansas City out of Chicago it was over 3.00....Once in Kansas City i did about 2.50 back to chicago...

The trick was finding good paying loads back to Chicagoland..

Mr Landstar8891 is BCO so his rates are from Landstar BCO Loadboard and negotiating with agents.

I am based in Lake County IL.Since March this year I operate more or less like You plan (weekly home time).

Constantly been over 2$ per mile on dry van before carrier cut.And 99.9% loads are booked from Internet Truckstop (ITS) and Landstar Broker.

    Running,odometer miles, between 2000 to 2500 weekly.

One thing I would say , my carrier been in business since December 2010 so good reputation helps, but can be build fairly quickly.

thanks for the info mp4694330, how often are you home? could you be home every day if wanted or is that not possible. Im still doing a bunch of research and playing with numbers but ive been figuring rates at around $1.75 a mile but the $2 a mile sounds better but i figured to round a bit lower on the rate per mile since im just working on paper right now if you know what i mean.

Usually back in Friday/Saturday and leave Sunday/Monday.Since HOS changes even make more sense for me to take restart home, but of course I can roll over my hours too.

Being every day home--- in my opinion extremely hard--- You either haul cheap(I consider 700$ per day and 2$ per mile minimum on dry van) or have special gig.

Chicago is great market but also a lot competition and much harder to find good paying loads back.

And one more thing: if You decide to jump in, buy sleeper. You will be thankful You did...
