This might be a silly question but is there more backing to be done in intermodal than lets say OTR and do you have to do it quicker as I'm assuming the yard is full of trucks trying to get through? I want to do night shift so what around what time would I start and end?

I'm not an intermodal driver, but I would assume that because of the multiple stops they are doing per day they would be doing more backing. I don't care what anyone says, you do NOT have to do it quicker. You do it safely and that is what counts, screw anyone else that tries to rush you.

Schneider was at our school today and he said they will only accept you for that if the school recommends you. I don't know what the qualifications are if you are already working there

I run regional intermodal out of Charlotte for Schneider. To answer your question.... Yes there is more backing on a daily basis and it can be very tight at the rail yards. I know for the most part Schneider won't hire you for intermodal without experience.
