I have heard about this like it is the standard, but never dealt with it personally. Who has had experience with a company not paying mileage across major metropolitan centers? When I route using MS streets & trips it is pretty much what I get paid. Basically a truck should be paid from point A to point B across the map.

I would be really interested to know what companies actually do this for sure.

Most companies run the miles with the household movers guide. It goes from post office to post office.. So if where you load and the post office is on your city exit side and the delivery post office is on the entry side.. You will be shorted. And yes a truck should be paid from point A to B.. At least now the companies are giving practical mileage and not shortest.. That would run you on roads that cars has problems on. If you go to big areas like the LA area.. Make sure the address matches the city on your bill. I've had them say lets say 123456 slawson, Los Angeles.. And 123456 slawson is really in Burbank .. Giving you shorted mileage. I had that happen.. Tell the company and try to get more money. Some shippers will do that so they get cheaper freight. Good luck.. It's better than it was but its still not perfect.

Come on.. Just typical truck drivers.. If you can't snivel ,complain , or don't have 2 cents with to throw in.. Your not a truck driver. Some just throw it into print.. But kids today.. Look at Facebook or twitter and what they put down , get into trouble and can't figure out why. That's why ones thoughts shouldn't be in print.

I thought this board was open for criticism. I find nothing wrong about raising an objection. And who is to decide what is trivial to one person is of great importance to another. I certainly understand why somebody would be omitted for swearing, but to cut somebody's comments short because of "a slight objection or criticism" is objectionable in its own right.

There was nothing being contributed. Just name calling, it totally derailed the thread and got pretty personal (including lots of personal details since they knew each other - pictures etc.). If you had read it I'm sure you would have been happy that it was taken down.

But back to the topic at hand, those city kms can take quite a while to clock - A guy would hope he could get some meager compensation for his work. This industry has sure gone down hill, I feel for all of the drivers who end up getting low rates, then get jerked around on all their free time/unpaid work. Sure truck drivers aren't always the most perfect people - but quite often they are the ones who have had been dealt the tougher hands in life and try to make something out of it.

Is that why they are no longer? Some just like to take over threads and change the subject.. And back to the subject.. The only way that one in trucking will be properly compensated is by getting an hourly wage.. Or have dock to dock mileage pay.. And cheap rates and greed will prevent that from happening.the only way that it will change is to move on to another type of work. Which is sad that this industry has gotten to where it is.

Its definitely an attitude a lot of people have. A lot of manager and dispatchers hate truck drivers, maybe hate is a but strong- bit they have a lot of disdain towards them anyways. That's how they justify it to themselves. Their rates are enough that they could compensate drivers for all their work - or at least a fair amount of it, but they simply want to increase their profit margins and we simply are just "truck drivers".

I've seen it a lot. Here you got this guy whose an immigrant or downtrodden - you scrape up enough to get your license and get to work. Then management come in and screws you wherever they can so they can get promotions and raises. In the meantime while they are doing this, something they know is wrong - they simply just write it off because your a low life trucker and hardly worth whatever they decide to give you (a dime a dozen). You end up getting 40c a mile (which is great in a perfect world), but then your always down because they got cheap un-maintained equipment, your always sitting around waiting for backhauls, and then they dont even pay you your actual mileage. Not only that they screw you wherever they can to increase profits. Some of them dont even treat you like a human - your a trucker - and Its easy to #### on a person whose been getting #### on his whole life.

so is that why they do it? Its more complicated than just that, but its definitely part of it.

Whatever they take from you is thiers, and what better way to take something from a guy then to make him believe hes worthless.

this is so true. In most dispatchers and managements eyes.. We are just stupid frickin truck drivers..do we deserve better? Yes.. But we need to make them realize that without truck drivers.. These office workers wouldn't have a job. It is supposed to be an all in deal.. Without me or them there is nothing.( Bad English). But we need to improve our image before we make them improve theirs.. Maybe it is time that the truck drivers take back and clean up the job, get rid of the garbage that has infiltrated the job and start getting others to respect us again. We need to re earn it.. Then we can start getting better things.. Until then.. I guess we are just stupid frickin truck drivers. But things like pee bottles, poo bags, etc have gotto go.
