Eventually you will go to your county courthouse to register the dba where they will also perform a search. Then you have to publish a statement in a local paper that you intend to use the dba and that gives anyone who may think you are not entitled to use the name a chance to dispute it. After the notice is run for several weeks you will go back to the courthouse and they'll give you a certificate an it will be all official like.

my company name is my name i got too lazy to do a dba...lol just filled my tax id number ect under a sole proprietor ship with no dba

partly cause i couldn't come up with anything i liked for a company name. it is kinda funny though when people ask for your company name and then ask for your name some it will confuse them and then other it will surprise them that they are dealing with the company owner.

 

If you do an LLC, you will have to use the state website for the state you are living in, and most of those have a search feature that lets you check the name. Definitely search FMCSA as well.

 

One of the stupidest things I did was name the trucking company after my name I remember going to the bank for my first loan and they asked who I worked for......than it ended fast no loan!!!
Now I say I work for my company I can pay myself what ever I like if you need a house you can show you make $100,k a year pay the taxes and after two years they will give you what ever
