Starter companies with automatic transmissions?

    Driver solution. Pam has them BUT!!! if you just starting to drive and automatic is what's your concern. You don't need to be driving. U GOTTA STRAP A COUPLE GEARS TO GET RIGHT.

    If you need an auto trans, you do NOT need to be in a truck.

    Instead of throwing in the towel, and looking for a company with automatic transmissions, apply yourself to becoming a better driver, and learn to drive a manual shift tranny. After you do it for a week or so, you will shift a manual without even thinking about it.

    Truckin2Eat has it right, Go with a shifting transmission truck, You need to know how to shift it even if you are going to be in an automatic transmission, between you learning the shift it and the concept of what gears do and then down shifting using the engine as a brake rather then the engine, you need to learn to shift because in an automatic, on a mountain pass you are going to have to hold the gear so you don't crash at the bottom of the mountain, and better yet, you may have to shift it down(less) another gear to get the slowing that you need, Automatics are not a fool safe method of getting around driving and getting the load to the bottom of the pass! So just man up and learn to shift, go with a company that has a 10 or 13 speed and learn it like the rest of us. Good Luck.

    I think he is talking about auto shifting not automatics. Since I have driven a auto shift before it is no different then driving a stick. It is just not done by moving a stick through the gears. My auto shift could be shifted up or down by the driver pushing a button or put in H to hold a gear or L which would allow only downshifting. Went up and down every pass in the country and never worried about crashing at the bottom of a hill. If you where in lets say 8th gear and the jake was not holding?, slap it into L a little braking push the button and it would go down to 7th. H will hold the gear but allows up or down shifting. This is where some numptys would push the wrong button and up shift instead of downshift. Thats why I preferred to use L so only downshifting could be done on a grade.
    I agree a new driver should learn to shift under loads with a regular shifter. But a auto shift just shifts electronically versus mechanically.

    Personally I haven't left for training yet. But that's still an automatic to me, I have driven before plenty of times but ssssh don't tell anyone. I believe you gotta work your arm and left leg and have that leg shaking a little bit. I feel driving a automatic takes away from my skills of a trucker.

    you don't need a stick to be a real man I like my automatic
    had enough of shifting the autocar quad box in 1972 in uncles dump truck

    If you ain't shiftin', you ain't really truckin'! IMHO, autos are for lazy people. I drove one and hated it for the simple fact that I couldn't grasp the concept of over coming the fear of letting a tranny be in control of an 80k lbs truck. Evenwhen put in manual it would still shift as it saw fit which was much, much higher RPM then it should have even empty and I won't even get started on how much of a PITA it is to bump a dock with.
