Starter companies with automatic transmissions?

All the REALLY young/inexperienced guys that are frequenting this forum now as either students/wanna be students/rookies will be OLD FART's like me before auto's are the normal....other than manual transmissions...too many bugs still to be worked in that technology yet...it may be coming...but it will still be decades......

looking for a company with auto transmission. You got to be kidding. That isn't trucking. May as well get a 10 foot trailer and use your pickup.

You need to spend years in a manual truck, so that you learn how a truck feels on inclines, declines, on snow covered roads.
Most experienced drivers will tell you, you don't want a computer shifting your gears on a down grade in the snow and ice.

 

Seems like only a few are willing to actually answer your question. from what Ive heard, your best bets are Averitt (super strict), US Xpress still has a few autos but will not hire you unless you know how to operate a 10 speed, and TransAm are the only ones i know of for sure. However I agree with many of the others, automatics are a terrible idea in heavy trucks. I eliminated a few companies from my list when I originally started applying back when i got out of cdl school beacuse they only offered autos. I refuse to drive an automatic, especially if the company offers a mpg bonus, despite what you hear about autos giving you better mpg, its just not logical. You lose a lot of control over a lot of different aspects of your rig when you give up the manual. You are going to shoot yourself in the foot and possibly end up with a company you hate by basing your work decision on just companies that offer automatic trucks. Just my $0.02

There are 2 million mile trucks out here with Automatic Transmissions, What are the "Bugs" that needs to be taken care of?

 

USExpress seems really desperate right now. They are advertising like crazy all over the internet.

 

auto shifts are nice to a limit they have no power on inclines and in snow at usa i had a 2012 auto shift for awhile i did not like it but thats my opinion

 

Automatics being standard is not that far off. 10 - 15 years maybe... they are expected to count for 30% of sales this year. They are pretty common in Europe now, which is Ironic given most of the cars there are manual, the reverse of here LOL.
