business name?

Come Jan 1, I'm changing my business name. It will no longer by "my last name" Logistics Corp. I got my house 2 weeks ago, but it was a struggle for the whole process. It would have been far easier I think if it was Cheap Freight Corp. plus there is a privacy aspect of it as well. My wife is LE and google my last name and a lot of info pops up via the trucking company.

 

The other bad part about naming it after yourself is if you ever sell your business you probably don't want your name in someone else's hands.

 

Could You guys elaborate what exactly was the problem with loan/mortgage?

 

i don't see what the problem would be with getting a loan/mortgage. you tell them your self employeed they ask to see tax returns, same as if your company name was something else, unless your using the corporate structure, writing yourself a paycheck every month and then you can say your not self employed even though you are. biggest if your trying to get a loan durring your first year of self employment is going to be difficult anyway. somthing like 80% of new company's fail within the first year and banks defiantly take that into consideration.

 

i think the newer companies should start having fun with their names like "gigity trucking" "fap(forever alone pleasure) trucking" "swag trucking" "trucking trucking"

 

Another thing to keep in mind is that when operating as a sole proprietorship you really don't have a business, just in your mind. That was from a business attorney that I knew when we had our commercial and residential cleaning service years ago.

 

If you are going to go through the work and expense of starting your own business, then don't be stupid with the name of that business. Your business speaks of the person you are . . . there are already plenty of stupid trucking company names out there.

The biggest lesson in business and life . . . you only have one chance to make a first impression . . . what would one of those names say about you and your business???

 

I named mine after the name of the city I live in. Tell City Transport. Since I was the 34th trucking company in my city I was kind of surprised it was available. I just never liked how people usually name it after themselves I think you should try to be a little creative.

 

me personally i wouldnt name it a company like that i was just throwing ideas but some people didnt think twice and for that theres companies such as "haul n #####" of out south cali, "hohoho" out of tx,"mistletoe express", and believe it or no "Kool klan Kruise transportation" or truk-ing trucking and theres another medium size company out of virginia named "rubber duckling". i would name it something in the lines of "glory and diesel trucking" or simple as "taino express"

 

Rubber Duckling is just paying homage to the movie and song "Convoy", so that one isn't as bad. I've seen some real "interesting" names out there too. It's one thing to do a little play on words, but some of the names . . . make ya wonder what the heck they were thinking!
