Schneider or FedEx Ground ?

If your not in desperation mode keep looking, there's more companies that offer weekend hometime!

 

At FedEx Ground it's very possible you will be given a 1099 instead of a W-2; thus being considered self-employed. I'm surprised they allow contractors to hire students because they didn't used to. Don't know about Schneider but depending on the set-up, FedEx Ground used to be a pretty good gig. Notice I said "used to be," not sure how it is now but there's a reason I left in 2006.

 

1099 illegal? It may be; in fact, many say that it is illegal yet the great majority of FedEx Ground contractors pay their "employees" this way. Over the 4.5 years I was there I worked for two contractors. One paid me with a 1099 and the other with a W-2. Both were good jobs. Make sure that if you are paid with a 1099 that you are putting money away to file your quarterly taxes or..........you will have a lot to come up with on April 15th.

 

Go with Schneider. Start out your career with a real trucking company instead of a contractor. A lot of things can go wrong on the road. You want the support infrastructure that a mega offers a rookie.

Plus, Schneider has tanker. You can do it after six months then that experience will easily lead to a local job.

 

I work for Fedex freight, I know alot about Fedex ground, don't go with them you want be happy there and they don't pay well at all. Go with Schnider you will have a great job and you will be able to grow there. Hope that helps

If I had to choose between the two: I'd choose Schneider without any hesitation, learn what I can in 6 months, then switch to tankers....... If we weren't talking about "ground", AND working for a contractor: there's a real good chance I'd have a different answer. (But were not)
