7 on 7 off is like part time work, so that's a lot of your earnings going to insurance. If you can afford to do that, then maybe that will work for you.

Or unless you have a spouse with insurance and can be carried on their plan. But you're right, if the Roehl-offered insurance is the only coverage you have, I can't imagine being able to live very well on what's left over from a typical 7/7 paycheck. I'm glad they provide the options and choices they do though.

Well insurance is part of the employment package...I mean really if you were to take it out there would be more cents per mile or something in the equation.

The way I understand it now, to see this dermatologist in Marshfield. I pay the $33 office copay at the window. Then the doc sees me and sends the billing to the UHC for processing, to make it simple lets say $120. The visit goes unpaid since I have not attained my $1000 deductible. So I'm now hit with the full $120 bill, hopefully minus the copay. Whats extremely ironic is how they list that as an office visit copay yet it is really a full pay.

In my past experience a copay is typically the portion of a typical usual office visit charge that the insured pays, the insurance pays the rest. If the copay really just a down payment they should advertise it as such, especially if they have no intention of paying any portion of a visit.

I guess I will just have to find out in a few weeks. Was hoping someone here could advise if they just end up paying the full appointment charge if they have not met their deductible.

fortunately I don't have any kids on the way but I would hate to be stuck with a bill for 25% of that. When I had my daughter it was hmo and we paid maybe a few $20 copays...

Going to the dentist in a few hours, looking forward to a NC, however I am prepared.

If they bill you for the total cost of each visit until you reach the deductible then the co-pay is truly meaningless and confusing if not misleading. I've sold insurance plans for 30 years and this would be the first time I've heard of an insurer mentioning co-pay but billing for the total until you reach the deductible. Is there a cost sharing after the deductible has been met? Such as 80/20 or does the co-pay kick in then and they just illustrate it incorrectly or use misleading terminology? My wife has our health coverage so I haven't had to worry about it so never studied Roehls plan.

This is how it worked when my wife went to the doctor. We had to pay 100% of the visit. My wife called to compound when we got the bill. UHC said, you have to meet the deductible first. UNBELIEVABLE!!! that is why I call it catastrophic coverage. We have gone to a local doctor who is cash only. Get better service and pay less.

Oh, and I have never had a plan like this EVER! It's always, a co-pay is all you pay, period!

TRUTH IS::: silver plan $1050 deductible needs to be met before $30 copay kicks in and then I think after that its 80/20 until the $6500 annual out of pocket maximum kicks in.

So, went to see the dermatologist for two visits, gonna cost me about $200, i think i got about a $10 discount thru UHC.

The drug i need, no lie, $19000.00. It's called a biologic and it's administered subcutaneously quarterly in the office. The stuff works and is like magic for my skin.

So more UHC fun. Initial calls to UHC, on multiple occasions, was told that since drug was given in the office It would be treated as a medical claim and subject to my $1000 and $6500 deductible. So i was like great, $7500 out of pocket...lol.

Got hooked up with a program to get those deductibles paid for me by the manufacture and suddenly it was just a matter of paying my $60 prescription copay.

So in the big picture I'm very happy that I have my treatment and its only costing me about $200 out of pocket.

However, be very leary of this insurance. Expect to pay up to the first deductible for sure and 80/20 after that. It is no HMO and the copay is a trick at first.

My treatment program is quite simple and I probably talked to ten different people at UHC and got different answers each time. My opinon is to do your research, especially if it is an expensive treatment and don't agree to any treatment until your sure you have talked to UHC first and are sure what things will cost or you might get stuck with a hefty bill.

Tank said it right, this stuff works if it's catastrophic and we all hope that we don't need to go there.

Sounds like a high deductible health plan. They are becoming very common and will be the best choice in the future.
