It would be great if someone with a real sound meter, not a toy one, could check the decibel levels in a few older(10-25+yrs)
rigs that dont have any or much cab insulation ....especially with the larger engines and CAT engines.
Check it under way and under a full load if possible. The i phone app might work, I dont know if that can measure up to 130db with
accuracy. Then post it here.Specify the year, model, engine, etc. I need to know, thanks.

My company did it years ago and then gave it up. The sounds levels were always under the legal limit so they would not invest any more into the study. We had no modifications to the trucks and I would say the testing dated back to the early 60's. The only hazard they look for now is benzene.

I have been in CAT rigs that would damage any ears in a 4-6 weeks. Maybe the noise problem is just not understood.

You must have some really weak ears or the truck has straight pipes right next to the window. Any large company knows the noise level and what is legal and what is not. You think they run equipment that can end them up in court?

your kidding right??? no your not because the sound levels in almost all rigs will cause hearing damage.9 out of 10 people just dont get it. And small companies could give a fkk about Osha unless its directly getting threatened by them.Big outfits have newer rigs.
They are told not to put anybody out of business unless someone is going to lose an arm.

    Why?

As in... why do you need to know?

Those trucks are mostly not running these roads anymore.

The Detroits I have driven with straights are pretty loud, Cummins right in there too. The E and acerts if the pipes are real low I can hear a little rumble, but my B model with no resonator of any kind that is by no means stock from compression ratio to exhaust manifold, turbo, nozzles we get the idea even with jake on is quiet compared to the other power plants produced. Most CATS are my truck is an 85 and as hard of hearing as I am we can drive and have a conversation in normal voice tone. I like to hear what I'm driving any way amazing what it will tell you if you pay attention.
