I'm starting school in two wks.
There is $150 sitting fee. That basically covers pyschical and things.
They put u up in hotel. Have to share room with 3 others. U basically just have to pay for food.
If u drive there they will reimburse u on your paychecks. Paychecks start in the 6 week OTR part.
I asked if you always have to do the full 6 wks OTR if u do real good, but they said it's mandatory. That's the part I'm not going like. Living in a truck with some guy(possibly girl) for more than a month.

And yes they take, I think 35, a week out of your check.
Think I remember someone saying that it's not a contract where u have to work for them till it's paid. I'm planning on staying for a least a year anyways. Longer if things work out -
i sure would like to know what orientation is like tho.

Thanks Dave, I just finished sending an e mail to McCormack at the Trucking Careers of America.
So if I get this right:
I have clear Driving Record
I have good health
I have good eyesight
I enroll in their school
I pay them $150 and transport myself to their school
I pay them nothing out of pocket
I complete CDL school and get my license
I work for 6 weeks OTR as " training " for Swift
I have $35 per week deducted from my Swift Paycheck
I drive for them one full year
I am free to work for any company I want after one year
My tuition is paid after one year, no debt for tuition
Is that right? -
World, also check out Mid Florida Tech, and if you prefer a different route, try MCT (Midwest Coast Transport), they have a terminal in Sanford and provide training.

I'm starting training in millington, tn next wed. The only thing i'm not looking forward to like Dave said is the 6 weeks with the mentor. I've heard some of them are pretty nasty! (hygeine and what not)
-
Millington's where I'll be too. The OTR is really gonna be something.
Imagine if your best friend showed up at your house and asks if u want to go drive non-stop 24/7 for a month and a half clear across the United states.
Plus, I gather that if u end up not getting along with your mentor that u can really find yourself in some trouble. I've heard of student's getting tickets at weigh stations, because the mentor said the GVW weight was ok when it wasn't. Also, heard of students getting fired and left at truck stops(USA Truck story not SWIFT).
Just gonna be odd trying to sleep in the back of someone else's truck/bed? while rolling and bouncing around. Then, have to drive 11 hours and hope the mentor didn't sneeze in his hands.
tuition is paid after one year, no debt for tuition?
Actually, I think that it won't be paid within a yr. I thnk they end up sending u a bill after a year of the remaining balance. I think I remember being told that. -

I was told they take 37.50 out of every check for the first year. That adds up to 1950 and they're paying the other half. At the end of the first year the loan is paid. After the first year is over, they start reimbursing you that 37.50 every week until after the 2nd year they have paid you back you're 1950 and they've paid for school. As for myself, I'm going to try my hardest to stick it out for the year and then look for a local job.
