Because I'm an endless tinkerer. Ask reed he will tell you swapping out the cold and hot side housings.aren't a big deal whatsoever. The problem is now I can't sell my old turbo because half of it is on the truck sandwiching the new turbo.

Just my opinion as a shop owner, even though my customer base is very select and as an O/O Reed has his stuff togather and customer satisfaction is his main goal. I do understand the concept of my new toy arrived and I want it on so I can see the difference and at first it looks like a minor deal that snowballs worse and worse and you have enough time invested and are so close you just hate to quit been there done it not knocking you at all. Looks like a bad situation will get worked out to every ones satisfaction, good performance people that stand behind there product and care about after the sale are hard to come by.

I am going to pull the original build sheet for the 171702...but I believe that is the core turbo we started from, and it would have had standard oil drain bolt threads to my knowledge...but we will figure it all out!

I will be happy to exchange out the housings for you, just need to get the ones I sent originally so we can get you sorted out. I have the compressor cover here, just need to get the V-band welded on it and order a turbine housing. Just give me the "go ahead" and I will make it all happen.

Even though my business is a "turbo shop", my brain places me in "the customer service business" first...without happy customers the business will surely fail. Put the customer first and everything else is going to be fine. I try every day to do a perfect job, but I am only human and make mistakes from time to time. I hate it for the customer, but we will take care of whatever is needed to get him back going and happy.

Man I love happy endings. Lol

I just noticed this co is in my travel area. I run thru Pelham 4 day's a week & stop quite a bit at the 246 m.m. for fuel. going to keep this contact info.

Yes we can do that. Stock turbine housing that comes on a 171702(t6 flange, 5" v-band outlet with exhaust locator, 1.32 a/r), and 75mm race cover with 3" v-band female end welded on. Your welding is quite nice BTW, I wish my aluminum welding (if you can call it that) was half as nice. I will call you Tuesday to arrange this.
As far as the center section, I can certainly keep it as the only difference is the bolt holes which I can live with. Problem is it's just not performing up to par. It's a bit lazy, makes about .5-1 psi boost less at cruise and 5-6 psi less boost at full throttle. I can tell it's making less boost at cruise due to my scangauge computer which shows fuel flow in GPH. Going to swap in the older 171702 center section to eliminate any variables.
I was hoping to build a turbo that would be an improvement over the stock 171702 on a Detroit. I have a local shop willing to play with me, do full data sweeps and see what works best.
edit : wrong quote. -
Sounds like you are wanting something that is not going to happen with the 1.32 housing and 96mm exhaust wheel unless you go to a custom 1.10 non gated housing, but my suggestion would be back the turbine back to the 92mm wheel and run the available wastegated 1.10 that is available on one of the cat turbos.

I made 34-36 lbs with the 171702 that was on there which is the same exhaust wheel. The cover is from that turbo. The old one hit a lot harder and made more boost. The only variable is the billet wheel, but I want to be sure with more testing.
