Just found out a little while ago that the phone number I've been putting on all of my applications for Ryder isn't any good. I got a letter in the mail from them telling me how to go about getting my employment verified for employment purposes and when you call the number it says that "no Ryder employee is authorized to verify employment". Then they give you this website called theworknumber.com and you have to go there and create an account. It's an Equifax (credit company) affiliated website. So I did that. I then went on there like I was a potential employer to see what it said about me and make sure the dates were right. Well, I didn't get far and they were asking for a little over $20 for a membership fee. You can't see my info without paying.

Now I can go on there myself and print out my employment record with pay info on it, but it's not really a "verification" per se. I printed it and hope potential employers will accept it. It looks like something anyone could make up on Excel.

I thought it was a DOT law that you had to prove your past 10 years of employment history? How can they get away with making people pay to verify that you worked for them? It just doesn't seem right to me. I hope someone can prove me wrong on all of this. It would make my life a lot easier.

Thoughts? I think I may have a hard time finding a job with that situation. Maybe that's why I haven't gotten many job offers?

Another way to make life miserable. Something very simple turns into a PITA. BTW, you have to list your last 10 yrs employment, but the truck co. only needs to verify the last 3.

This is becoming more common, nearly all the big boys do it now. Swift uses a service, DriverFacts, that is owned by a Swift subsidiary. Got ya coming and going and I assume its legal.

How do they verify just by calling the number you give them?

That's usually how it works from my understanding. I have had a couple of places run my DAC and go by that. That seems like the easiest thing to do but not all companies will do that. I read a few ads by oil haulers in the oilfield that said they need good phone numbers for the last 3 years of employment. I thought I had that but when I called Ryder I got that message that said they are not authorized to verify employment. What a load of crap.

I got an IRS printout of my last 10 years work history and I printed what little info was on that website that Ryder sent me to. Hopefully that is enough.

Was just wondering if they just called. Or need separation notice from last employer, pay stubs, etc. But I guess not. Don't have to worry about my dac lol never had a trucking job.

Gotcha...well if you get a CDL, the Dept. of Homeland Security wants to make sure you haven't been overseas training in a terrorist camp or anything like that so you got to prove what you've been doing. All gaps in employment must be accounted for, even if it means getting signed letters from friends and family, etc. They mostly just call the companies you list I think.
