    Hello,

My name is Vince and I live in Northern Nevada. I currently haul dirt (bottom dump trains). It's been a dream of mine to work for myself really ever since I can remember. I was thinking of purchasing or leasing a 26 to 30 foot box truck with refer capibilities. I know right now it's still all on paper, but I would appreciate any information that anyone could offer. Will have HAZMAT, and will travel anywhere across the country. My main hang up is how much per mile does a truck like that with only one diver charge? I will have to cover repairs, insurance, fuel (diesel), and all permit and license fess. I want to be competitive but still need to make a profit.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, before I go out and get the above mentioned truck, would it be better to maybe go the Hot Shot route with a full sized diesel pick up and a 40ft gooseneck? I am no stranger to hard work and plan to work even harder when I learn what I need to get started and what to charge.

Thanks I look forward to hearing for you guys.

    Vince Reno, NV

I would start with the idea of what you are going to haul and how will you find the work. Maybe contacting Panther, FedEx or another "expediting" company to give you an idea of what you really need and what money you can make.

I owned a reefer truck and made OK money but I had a choice, I would have done what you are doing.

I would start by saving up 18-20K and buying one outright. Read Lease options forums. All are against it.

Vince I will weigh in my 2 cents. A short about myself. I am 7 yrs a class A driver, 20+ yrs have had a class B, and owned my own TT for about 4 yrs now. You r right to think owning would be good for u. I would'nt drive for someone else again. Dont go to Panther. We just quit them. Read my other posts.
I beleive that a TT makes more sense and money than a straight job. The reasons r SJ uses about the same amount of fuel but gets paid less than a TT. SJ costs the same to fix but once again makes less. Freight for a SJ is more specific and harder to get.
Now I have been looking at a hot shot rig myself. Better milage. Better freight pay because you are independant. Cheaper everything. And I just met a man that did it for years for the oil fields in TX and said he made a killing.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! Before u do anything. Good luck
