Doesn't Swift offer cdl training? If they approve you for a pre-hire, inquire about attending their school.

Send apps to every company that offers cdl training, one of them will take you.

Most cdl schools I have knowledge of "teaches" you just enough to get your cdl.

yep,and that's all they are hired for is to teach you just enough to jget your cdl.The real learning comes with trainer. Many tell the students whatever you learned in school throw it all away because that's not how its done.I wouldn't trust a school like this one with only a few short hrs.You might as well go to the casino because its pretty much the same thing.

I agree with patty. Why have 3500$ deducted out of my paychecks when I can read everything I need to know online. $580 for 5 hours of test driving and a road test. Like patty said. The real training starts when you get a mentor

    Uhh...maybe you missed this part.

If "five hours of training" gives you the skills to get hired and know what you are doing, guess most of us wasted our time and money.

What kind of truck are they using?

    What kind of trailer?

Hello, My first post, but not first time using forums.

Im in similar situation. I just received my NY CDL B With PS endorsement permit. Driving schools around New York City are asking about 180 just for the truck/school bus to use for the road test and 85 per lesson. So similar to ProjectICE pricing. From what i've heard you cannot use a rented car on a road test. Ex I cannot rent a car for my gf to use because she is not authorized to use the vehicle from the rental agency. This should be true for truck rental companies? I doubt i have any friends with a CDL near me. I too, am a quick learner, 10 years of driving manual trans in nyc traffic.

I scheduled my roadtest for this October since the appointments fill up quickly and didnt want to risk waiting longer and months wasted.

Anyone in NYC can recommend a good place to learn from?

    Thanks
    Izzy

BTW NOTE: I am just trying to get my CDL B Straight Truck or Bus. No Tractor Trailer. Just looking for info on passing and getting my cdl b license for local work

what kind of schools are these? they don't sound legit. I am in chicago, here state approved schools have to be at least 160 hours with a minimum of 32 hours behind the wheel.

LOL, the real training, experience, and learning comes when you are out with a company trainer? That's a good one. Too many companies give you the option to become a trainer (Swift calls them 'Mentors') with just a few months experience as a first seat driver. In my mind, that's the blind leading the blind. Unless a person is extremely exeptional, a few months is not enough time to have the knowledge and experience to train new drivers.

As for "accredited" trucking schools: Accredited would be a University type of thing. To my knowledge, no trucking school is "accredited" per se; therefore, Federal assistance for a CDL does not exist. If I am wrong about this, please tell me, and tell me the name of the trucking (CDL Training) schools that are "accredited" and you have an actual degree as opposed to just having attended a big name school with a reputation (C1 for example).

I entered trucking at the height of the so-called "Great Recession". Completely the wrong time. Companies hiring more than they had trucks for to get the Subsidy money the Government gives them for hiring. I was 'used' for the subsidy twice by two different companies. When my trucking endeavor did not work out because of the games, I filed bankruptcy, and the trucking school bill I was not supposed to have in the first place would have been wiped out had I gone through with the bankruptcy through it's conclusion. I know someone who did do the bankruptcy to it's conclusion who had a trucking school bill, and he no longer has that obligation. I still have the bill I am not supposed to have, but when I threatened bankruptcy, I was not harrassed for the money anymore. I'll pay the bill myself, but ONLY through a driving job I trained for. I can get out of the CDL training bill if I do the bankruptcy. You can not get out of a school tuition bill through bankruptcy when you attended an "accredited" school.

roadiseian, you seem quite bitter. Also you are very wront about acrediation. Acreadited simply means approved by the us board of education and approved for federal studant finiancal aid. It has absolutely nothing to do with universities or degrees. Community colleges offer many career training courses without degrees, including truck driving. There are many tech schools and career training schools, including trucking schools that are accredited and approved by the us board of education. And I will not name them for you because you are too lazy to reasearch before you postbad information. And pay your bills, you know millions of people pay off student loans and dont work in their perfered work area. Its not the schools fault you didnt get your dream job

You are way off base with that assumption. Almost every single community college/technical school that offers CDL training can offer you some sort of financial aid/student loan through programs funded by the state or the federal government as long as you qualify for the help...you can even (provided that you are an honorably discharged veteran) use a form of the GI bill it used to be called, don't know what it's called now....all kinds of financial aid out there to take advantage.....all kinds....

While most truck driving schools have programs that only last a few weeks, the cost associated with training can be more than most people have lying around the house or in between the couch cushions. A lot of people end up choosing truck driving as a career after being laid off or quitting their existing jobs. This can make saving the money for CDL training even more difficult. There are a lot of options available for individuals to cover the cost of tuition at a trucking school. While there are going to be some differences from state to state and school to school, below is an overview of some of the options you can explore with a career adviser at your local CDL training facility.

    Paid CDL Training

There aren’t as many trucking companies that offer paid CDL training as there once were. While this is a good option for someone with poor or no credit and no other financial options, company-sponsored CDL training can often lead to long employment contracts making much less than other truckers.
Overall, not a bad choice as getting into the trucking industry is a good decision no matter what route you take, paid CDL training is something that should be carefully considered. Be sure to review any contracts you are asked to sign and ask questions about anything you aren’t sure of.
    Unemployment / Workforce Investment Act

Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds are often available for trucking school. These funds are offered at the state level, and are used to help people train for new careers when they are unable to find employment in their current industry with their current skillset.
There are also other funding programs available in some cases for the unemployed. These programs are designed to help fund vocational rehabilitation for those unable to find gainful employment with their current skillset.
    Student Loans

There are many private loan institutions that will provide personal loans to students looking to obtain assistance with paying for CDL training. These loans usually require a credit check and in some cases a cosigner for the loan.
You might also expect to see a private lender require you to have your student loans repaid by automatic draft from your paycheck once you start working with the transportation company you’re hired on with. Tuition reimbursement (see below) offered by such companies might also be sent directly to the private lender to help pay off your loans.
Receiving a loan from a private lender is one of the most common methods of financial aid used for truck driving school.
    Tuition Reimbursement

A lot of the major transportation carriers out there who offer partial or full reimbursement for the cost of your CDL training. Usually, this type of reimbursement is offered in smaller payments added on to your paycheck throughout the first year of employment with the company.
This is a wonderful option for people who either have enough money saved up for CDL training or are able to raise the money through friends and family. This allows you to get through CDL school and pay off your personal loans within a reasonable amount of time without having to repay them from your regular earnings.
    Other Financial Aid Options

Believe it or not, there are a lot more options available than what is mentioned in this article, but not all options are available in all states and at all schools. The best thing to do if you are interested in exploring all of the financial aid options available to you would be to contact us using the form on the right hand side of the page and we will put you in touch with an authorized CDL Training Today representative who can explain all of the options available in your area.
