thats exactly what i was thinking. but my fellow drivers and i are always encountering ups/motorcargo drivers telling us the "inside scoop". i was thinking yeah if they buy conway, are they gonna put up another 750 million for the cfi/truckload division. we'll just wait and see what happens.

Buyouts are good for some companies but not all.Conway has been approached by some companies for purchase but all offers where declined. Why?Conway did not want to sell one of it's holdings,it's LTL division. It would sell that but only if it included it's other holdings, logistics, etc. So again,it's the whole package or no deal.UPS was looking to expand into LTL,Conway seemed like a good bet,but UPS did not want to buy Conway as a whole, duplicating divisions that it already owned or had established previously.UPS did buy out Overnite.Overnite's coverage was limited at the time,no where near what Conway had established as far as terminals and manpower.UPS ,however has deep pockets, expansion into the LTL market will increase.Trucking companies stock values have declined recently due to the economy.Since most buy outs are based on stock price you might see more aqquisitions in 2008.Hope this helps.

UPS Freight does have deeper pockets but they want to keep it that way, the facility where my husband worked out of didn't have even pallet jacks guys are always fighting over them, when they were Motor Cargo if they needed something the red tape was nearly has long.....
Just because they have a known name it doesn't mean they live up to their commericals.....

they are a monoply the government should step in, they're not a better company, they have a bigger name and by the way their rates are higher I'm a buyer I try not to use them they come in with their BS about saving us money their rates go up every February.... FEDEX give us 30%
