Just to give a little background on me I started at USX at 21 yrs old straight out of cdl school. I had a great trainer and then teamed right after with another 21 yr old I met from orientation who just happened to be upgrading the same day. Seems crazy now that I think about it considering he had never even been out of the state he was born in which was in the south.
We did great over the road for a year going through 3 brand new freight liners that all had def issues that took to long to fix so everytime they would just put us in a new truck after a few days in the shop. We both went local after that year on the same account for almost 2 years and then USX lost the account. He was hired at the new company that took over and I left USX a couple months before that. But decided to finish my 3 yrs exp with USX going otr. They have the 8k sign on bonus but its spread out over 3 years. I knew I would not be around for 3 years but the 1k after the first load sounded great and 750 after 30 days was good as well.
My fleet manager is great met him in tunnel hill and he has kept me running all week. However I was offered dedicated Walmart which pays .36 a mile and guarantees 2200 pay every week. I was thinking about staying otr atleast 30 days to get the other 750 but the sliding pay scale and not knowing if the walmart position would still be there had me really debating. I talked to the walmart fm and decided to just maybe lose a few hundred dollars the first month for guaranteed more steady money in the future. Hopefully I made the right decision...my otr fm said I was always welcome back to his fleet if I did not like it. So I should be starting that on Tuesday.
I'm driving a 2012 International Prostar thats a condo but with only one bed. Not much space considering I am used to the Cascadia but I can make it work since when I was in the cascadia I shared it with another person lol. Still no tickets or accidents on my record but the International has bad shake from the front end and the engine light came on immediately when I left tunnel hill but I drove it this week but put it in the shop on saturday so hopefully it could be ready by tuesday. If not maybe they will get me a new truck. I'll keep you all updated on my progress and hope to meet some great people on my journey. Drive safe all
