We only do local work and we are taking this job on and we pay everyone 40 cents per mile or hourly. This is for no touch 80k lbs container. 4000k miles round trip. It is all no touch. You guys are fast to jump that we are bad guys but we may have more after 3 months but I don't want to promise anything and I want to be fair. Oh and you will be loaded only one way. Thanks.
What should we expect for miles driven per day

take the job and contract it out. I don't know how many driver you think you need, but the red tape and pre-employment requirements don't allow for going out and putting 15 teams or 30 solos on inside of a week for somebody who is not set up to do that. But I can tell you, "good drivers" and "temporary" don't typically coincide with one another.
If you have trucks, you know what it costs to move them down the road and keep them maintained, figure a minimum of 50 cents to the driver for wages, taxes, insurance, and other things. Then you can determine if it's cheaper to do it yourself or contract it out. If I was in NY and considered myself a "good, safe, qualified" driver, I wouldn't quit one job for another for less then 50 cents/mile 3000 MPW guarantee, understanding there were no benefits or long-term positive prospects per-say, just an opportunity to move consistently for a while. A lot also has to do with the kind of equipment you can or can not offer and how you can support it once it leaves your normal operating area. -
Thanks, we where thinking the same thing 50cpm but how many mile should they average per day. I'm trying to figure out how many trucks we need and I don't want it to be stressful out there. The tractors will be new or one year old.

Solos or team? Solo, 600 a day easy. Team, 900-1000. These numbers, however, are for good SOLID drivers. A solid driver can continually run. A crap driver will be calling you crying on the return trip home on the first run wanting you to hold his hand. The moron will average 350 a day, sideswipe 2 cars, pull the hood off of another truck, tear up a set of tires from hitting curbs, and take down 1 street sign a day.
But like they said, a good driver isn't going to leave a good gig for a 3 month gig. "I may get more" most certainly won't get his attention. 3 years worth of freight, sure. 3 months, hell no.cetanediesel and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Why are you concerned with how many miles per day...this ain't rocket science and IF you're already running a trucking operation YOU should have zero trouble figuring out these things. You gonna run teams , or run solo...4000 miles @.50 cpm is 2,000 for the trip..is it a drop and hook , live UN-load...you ask for answers but give no details......sounds fishy.....

running a container coast to coast and dh back?
doesn't sound very cost effective
must be 100 companies all set up to get your freight there
and they will get a load back -
He doesn't want anyone to jump in and under cut him and grab his freight. I can understand that. The problem is finding drivers who can be trusted to do the job, and make his customers happy, yet not screw him out of the deal.
How many loads are there? More than he can cover himself. If it was just 1 load a week, he would jump in the truck and do it. My guess is 3 a week. A solo solid driver would be able to make a turn a week consistently. The team would do 2 and 1. If he hires a company to pull the loads, the company will send its salespeople there to underbid him and take his contract.
So, what can he do? He could make a contract with a few independents to pull his freight, and take his cut off the top. He wouldn't have to pay for fuel, maintenance, anything. I figure it would net him more money than trying to figure out how to hire good drivers for an extremely short timespan. -
Well odviously weather accounts for some but in perfect conditions in open country I would say out of a good single driver you should get 600-650miles a day and that depends on the speed of the truck also as far as money per mile I know in my area of the midwest most companies are paying 44 cents to 50 cents per mile if you don't want decent drivers but the fact it is only a 3 month window may hurt getting someone in the door even with the driver shortage people are looking for job security
