Looking to Get my CDL Permit in Maine and Head to Springfield, MO to get my CDL though Prime, now my questions is, i kno i have to ride with the instructor for 10k miles 2-4 weeks, and a Trainer for 30k miles, NOW do i get a Break inbetween the Instructor and Trainer? and can i get some home time while with the Trainer? after i am finished with the Trainer can i run solo and get my own Tractor or do they make me team drive?

Dependant upon where you live.... Millis Transfer and Roehl Transport both have outstanding CDL programs.
09mgray Thanks this. -
No. You either stay with your instructor for TnT, or hop onto a trainers truck right after getting your CDL. However, the way it works is you'll have a Missouri CDL, and Prime will get you back up to Maine within 30 days so you can transfer your CDL back home. That's a good time for a break.
Most folks want to get through the training as quickly as possible... taking a spell of hometime just stretches it out. If you really want this, you'll need to discuss it with your trainer and Fleet Manager... it can be arranged.
As was previously mentioned no, Prime is mostly solo drivers. When you upgrade to solo status after training, you'll get a solo truck. If you want to team, let your FM know... he can help you find someone to drive with.
You should know up front that the company policy IS 3 weeks out between hometime requests. You accrue 1 home day each week out, and can use up to 4 days each time you're home... not including your arrival and departure days. You'll also get a week's paid vacation for every 125,000 dispatched miles, which starts once you upgrade to A-seat, solo status.
Being from Maine, you qualify for the NE reefer division. If this interests you, make sure you tell your recruiter about it. On top of the 37-cpm you get as a company driver, there is a 5-cpm bonus for driving a lightweight AND a 5-cpm bonus for all miles run in the NE region. Not bad for a new driver starting at 47-cpm plus fuel bonus. Anything pretty much north of DC and east of Ohio is considered the NE-region; you should probably ask someone about the boundaries- I'm guessing. All miles run in the NE qualify for that 5-cpm bonus. Also, as part of the NE-regional fleet, they'll dispatch you mostly up there. We have a DC that we operate for a large corporate chain out of Lewiston ME... they're always looking for drivers, and that could keep you up that way quite a bit.Highway101, 09mgray and 60sBABY Thank this. -
No bro is minimum 70 hours and if the instructor feels that you are ready them you go to springfield,it took my buddy 5 weeks to finish psd,is really the instructor who decide.

So i herd Prime Leases Trucks, What if i Chose not to Lease it will they put me in a company truck?
-
You want to start out in a company truck for a couple of years at least- and you will make a good living at it. The last thing someone with no experience in trucking needs is a lease contract tied around his neck. No one will try to force you to lease (like at other carriers,) and if at some time in the future you want to try it, all it takes is one message to your fleet manager to route you into the terminal.09mgray Thanks this.
