I know you will get different opinions but from what I have heard Prime is a good company to start with as long as you stay a company driver. Do not do lease purchase at first until a few years of company driving. As far as adjusting to being away from home it depends on a lot of things as in are you married have kids can your wife manage the stress herself because she will have to be the person doing all the home work herself. Do you like being confined to a cab of a truck because that will be your office and home for a couple weeks at a time. You will get to be at a truck stop daily but you have to figure what you like. It seems rough at first but after a while it is not as bad as it was at first.

adjusting to the road takes some time. but it will pay off in the long run. the hardest part for me was not seeing my family. talking 2 them on the phone daily helped

Speaking as the wife of a driver who did his first year driving with Prime, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better way to get your first year under your belt. Also as the wife, daily phone calls were the highlight of my day. Even if it's only 30 seconds it takes to say "Hi baby, I love you, I'm beat, g'nite, sleep well."
The adjustment on both sides takes a little time, but FOR US, it has been well worth it. The bank account is happy, the folks that keep the lights and the internet on are happy, the mortgage man is happy. And believe it or not, the family is happy. Because hubby is not nearly as stressed as he used to be when he turned wrenches for a living. That is mostly because he is earning 2.5 times what he was turning wrenches. -
im young 26yrs old married 1 child 3yrsold....yea if i decide to truck its definitely going to be prime...@dragontamerbrat that is the main reason of wanting to drive to make a better life for my family.... just a little nervous never been a way from family, but this life i got rite now in NC is not the best...... i was also wondering do they have automatic trucks...i am a beginner manual tranny on a car which is totally different from a rig....

No, they are all manual transmission.

Don't be worried about manual transmissions you are going to be the first or last person to ever grind gears. There a lot of people learning to drive that have never driven a truck much less a manual. You will probably grind gears and as you progress you will laugh about when you first started. If and when you decide to take the leap don't get discouraged.

We live in NC, close to the outer banks, right now. My husband left about a month and a half ago for PSD, he is now in the TNT. He has ZERO experience and is doing great. It will take some time to adjust. We have on child, 19 months old. She asks for her daddy daily, but the only thing I can tell her is that he is at work and will be back soon. Call your wife and child daily, even if only for a few minutes, it makes everything so much easier. My husband calls me more than once per day, right now, usually morning and evening. But that is because we have a lot of things that are going on right now, and we have to figure everything out. We did not have the money for him to go, but so far it seeming to be the best decision we could have made. He enjoys driving and that is what matters.
