Rate fight with CH Robinson

    So, CH Robinson and I agreed to a load Friday. Picked up at a port, and I don't have a TWIC card, so the fee for my escort was $80. The broker asked me to stomach it. I said no, that I wanted $1400 "TO THE TRUCK" to handle the load he was asking me to take. He said fine. So he sends me a rate con with $1000 to the truck and $250 for on-time delivery and $150 for three days worth of check calls, $50 each. The next day, I was slaving away under a trailer, replacing air bags. I missed three calls from CH and then I get an updated rate con reflecting a new total rate of $1350. Well. Fine, I actually missed a check call. But my argument is that the oral agreement we made was for $1400 to the truck, not $1000 plus special credits for on-time delivery and check calls. I talked to him, then his supervisor, and neither would accept that this morning. Supervisor told me to take it up with carrier services. I told him not to ask me to take any more loads, and then told him to shove it.

    Anyway, deducting seems chisely and just as dishonest as TQL. But is there any recourse? Doesn't to the truck really mean to the truck!?

    Written contract will override verbal. If you didn't like the terms they sent they you shouldn't have picked up the load.

    If they are playing hardball on this they likely have the same terms in their contract with the customer. We have some of those but we just require tracking on the phone (that we pay for) when we have those.

    Or, they could be idiots. Just sounds like a lot of work just to cause you grief.

    You told them $1400 and then accepted the break out of $150 for check calls and $250 for OTD. And then took the load. That's the deal right there.

    Sounds like you just fired a possibly decent customer over $50 or $150, depending on how you look at it. Yeah the way he broke out the extras was a lil sleazy, but they (not just CHR) stuff extras onto a rate however they can make it work. You do know you can do CHR check calls on their website, right? Just log in, update, and done. No need to talk to a human.

    And who goes on a port expecting a customer to pay for their twic escort? Either bake it into your rate and don't mention it, or get a twic card and quit paying someone else who did.

    I get a load printout with all specs and rates on CH moves. It's all right there. Did you get this doc when you accepted the load???

    they have APP. 4 UR phone that keeps track of U on the load so no CK. calls ask

    I simply won't screw with CH or TQL. They are good at playing the B.S. trickery games if your not watching them closely. They are a bunch of quacks. Had to deal with them driving someone else's truck. No way will I ever take a load from them personally. Taking a load from them IMHO is your first mistake.

    When you take a load you need to be prepared to live with the terms or not take the load. Having a TWIC is pretty common knowledge in this industry for those going to the ports. It saves a lot of hassle and expense if you just get the TWIC. You should read over any rate confirmation to see if matches what you agreed to verbally. In not, then you should require that a new confirmation be sent with the agreed terms. If the broker doesn't want to put the agreement in writing, then find another load with another company. I have had a few glitches with brokers over the years, but most will do what they say. Unless it is someone with whom I have dealt with for some time and I know how they do business, my trucks don't move until I get a rate confirmation and check it over for the terms that we agreed. You can spend time going after a few dollars, but won't likely win due to the rate confirmation. From your post, they are keeping their side of the agreement. You could probably have not had the loss if you had just given them a call.

    Makes me happy I am done with CH. Just another reason I deal with about 4 brokers and that's all. Sorry for your loss. But I agree with BBB. Written overrides verbal. Get your money and never do business again with them.

    So this makes CHR bad and what do it make the carrier that accept their loads. I never had a problem with CHR If I dont like the rates thanks but no thank you. like Bill said you had a written contract with them you didnt hold up to so you mad, and that makes them bad?
