Trucking and mental health issues

I think the humor in this thread is very much a part of old school trucking.

I was taught by veterans, 30, 40, and 50 year veterans of the industry. And there is one thing they and I have in common:

We love to joke around, like in this thread. Nobody like's doing tires, but, it's a helluva' lot more enjoyable when someone cracks a good joke.

And I agree with Wanderingaimlessly, the change in the social interactions seen in trucking aren't simply limited to trucking, it's all sorts of industries, it's in our society in general now.

 

Sure. Whenever I'm depressed I consult Dr Jose Cuervo and pour my heart out.

I used to work in a general contracting company. We had electricians, pipefitters, carpenters etc.. At lunchtime, everyone self segregated. The electricians sat with electricians, pipefitters with the pipefitters. Kind of interesting really.

 

I checked the link to the study, and it looks like its part of an occupations hazards study. These get done for insurance purposes- for workman's comp and osha too.

When entering any new field, it's good to find out what the stats are, but lots of occupations come with poor mental health scores: bartenders and dentists have really high depression and suicide rates too.

Nice thing about trucking is you can drive solo, or team up if you feel lonely
