    Logs,

No he didn't get in trouble with any of the gals yet. I did tell him about the line 4 post trip. He said he's been writing it on there but he must have forgot a couple of times, so I can only assume he must have been tired and did it, but forgot to add it to his log when he stopped. He was just in there yesterday (Wednesday) at the Indy term. He came over a couple of times to see you but couldn't ever catch you at your desk. I'll try to take a peek at his log book when he gets home and see if he's missing any post trips and what days. He's supposed to be home this afternoon instead of tomorrow so when he gets here I'm going to grab his blue book and spend some time really reading the section on logging. If I have any questions on it, I'll send you a PM. I never took the time to do more than glance at it when he was home last time instead of sitting down and really reading it.

Thanks for your input Logs. I'll make sure to print your answers to read along with the log section in the manual.

Go FIGURE! I was out yesterday, my daughter was sick:yes2557:

See if he is actually going on line 4 # the end of his working day for his post-trip. It seemed he would do it every couple days. Maybe he is thinking trip/it's supposed to be done every day. Some get that confused. Anyhow have him call me tomorrow "hopefully we won't be busy".

Yeah read it, however there is a few things that I am changing: Like scale , dropping, hooking(15 minutes at least), But read it, I give tips as to what would be nice to do ! Especially read about lines 1,2,3 & 4 (what they mean, I hope it's in there) and loading/unloading well all of it l.o.l.:yes2557:

Go ahead and "split hours" and then get back with me after doing this for a month. If the company you drive for does log audits, let me know how you fare? I know companies that have put out bulletins against "splitting hours". Now someone sitting in an office might explain how simple and easy this method is, but even when you were allowed to do a "5 and 5", running solo this method would eventually come back to haunt you.

Why "split", if you are going to "sleep" for 6, then why not "sleep" for 10 and be done with it:biggrin_1square1:

If you split you can only do a 8-2 split now.

My whole point! It is completely stupid for a driver to start this mess.
Even when I ran team, years ago, we ran 5 and 5 and I would certainly hate to do the 8 hour deal as a team driver, oh my aching back!:biggrin_25513::biggrin_25513:

Take 8 off, why not take two more hours and be in the clear.:yes2557:

Because you may need to get home so many hours earlier or you may need to make that deliver in a tight schedule and as to saying you can't make it, if you know how to split break you can say sure no problem I can take it all the way and on time and legally. That's what many drivers/companies are not understanding. If they would only teach you and take the time to get you to understand it because it's an advantage to everyone!

It will only haunt you if you do it incorrectly and where I stand if I see you are logging legal and you are trying, the next step with you is getting you to understand what you didn't the first time and you will have it!

IT IS EASY! If I can figure it out on my own, then I know you guys/gals can do it! IT'S SO DARN EASY I CAN'T STRESS IT ENOUGH TO YOU ALL!
Quit thinking you can't do it and think YES I CAN YES I CAN YES I CAN YES I CAN! YES I NEED TO LEARN IT, YES I NEED TO LEARN IT. L.O.L. Come on guys! I am trying to help you all out!

Are you taking the 10 though? If you are great! If you have no problems with miles, then great! If you don't need it, sure don't use it! I do wonder how many times you was late or had to reschedule or run illegal to make it on time

Why not drive 5 hours shut down for 2 (shower/eat) and drive 6 and stop for 8 and do it all again! I think these drivers are safer because they stop during the day and take a break.

Please do understand the 2 hour break does not extend the 14 hour clock (or stop it)

Also that 2 hour break you may have gotten at a customer or another reason you was held up but could be off duty or sleeper. Just many reasons come to my mind!

I was told you have to do the 8 before you can do the 2 on a split.

Because there is so much controversy among DOT officials from one state to the next and company log auditors from one company to the next surrounding the split break since Oct. 2005, I've avoided doing it since then.

Nope the 2 hour break can come first and any officer that tells you that isn't true tell them to view the dot examples on the federal motor carrier site and it will show them it can be first! However the 2 hour break does NOT EXTEND or stop the clock!

Many companies say the 2 can't come first because it doesn't extend the 14 hour so they say the 8 has to come first.

But if the 2 comes first then instead of 10, you take 8. Keep in mind the driving hours before the 8 hour break (or 2) is still counting against you. Thus meaning you might drive 4 hours and have to stop for that shower and meal again (Hmm taking a shower every day legally :)

Just trying to help you learn bits and pieces and eventually keep reading my messages and it will click and then you all will understand what I am saying!

Well, I finally got a chance to sit down and read the log section from the company manual. But I don't get it. The split breaking thing. I really need to sit down with someone and do it myself with someone teaching me. I just learn better by doing it. Plus I could ask questions to clarify what I don't understand. I guess I'll just have to go visit Logs someday so she can show me how to do it. LOL!! I understand what she's saying in theory, how it can help a driver when done right, but I just can't get it in practice. I need a real person to talk to and learn from. I have to agree with her though. I can see there would be a benefit to it when done correctly. Don't ask me to explain it though, how I see benefit. Like I said, I get the whole theory of it, I just can't understand the practice.
