I never had a problem driving at night. or day for that matter. prefer night, less stressful.
mje Thanks this. -
I recall coming home from sterling back when I was 18 buddy had graduated high school. Was about midnight on by 43 coming back to Lincoln. Some moron topped the hill with his brights on. I flashed my brights and have him 5 seconds. Nothing. Gave him 800,000 candle power from the 4 kc day lighters on the top of my ranger for 2 seconds and he killed his brights.
Fog lights are one in the same. I don't give 2 ##### if you're in a truck or a car if you have your fog lights on you get to stare at my brights. Criticize me all anybody wants. If you need FOG lights to see at night get the hell off the road! And no I don't discriminate. If you PASS me with your FOG lights on and its not FOGGY I turn my brights on and you can stare at those. As for the HID and LED headlights nothing I can do they're legal to run I look at the line say a couple cuss words and mind my own.
Oh but I probably shouldn't talk. I'm sure there are a lot of people that don't like all my pretty chicken lights at night. I just say it ain't no different than the people that drive a truck that's all chromed out and shined up during the day that blinds everybody. Or the shiny hineys.
And there ain't nothing like hearing that deep voice come on the radio saying "cluck cluck chicken truck" or when your passing somebody hearing
"How bout that east bound chicken truck at the 346 you got it on"
"Yea go ahead"
"Hey driver you mind backing off a little I need to check my map"

I had a lot of trouble staying awake when I started this job. It became really bad the longer it went, to the point where when I got home and sat down to eat or talk to the wife I would just fall asleep midsentence. I began to realize that at the age of 29, something wasn't right. Ended up at the doctor where they pulled the vampire trick and removed 4 tubes of blood. What they found was my vitamin b12 was nonexistent. So for a week I went everyday for a shot, followed by taking b12 supplements every day. And believe it or not it works wonders....also, cut out the eating overnight. I eat a good meal before I leave and drink lots of water at night. Trust me, its hard to get tired when ya gotta get out every hour to water the flowers.
mje, DoneYourWay, briarhopper and 1 other person Thank this. -
The 30 minute nap is counterproductive. Sleep comes in 90 minute cycles. If you want to be refreshed from sleep, then make it a 90-100 minute break. It is also very important that you sleep AS SOON AS YOU GET TIRED. We've all been sleepy but stayed up to finish the last 15 minutes of a movie... only to toss and turn all night. We missed the "sleep opportunity window". Had we gone to bed right away when we were sleepy, then we would have gone right to sleep.
Don't overdo the caffeine. Your body will get habituated over time. Then caffeine will have the OPPOSITE effect. If youare a heavy ccaffeine user and find you are getting tired instead of energized, then you may need to avoid caffeine for a few days. There may be unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
I don't eat any big meal before night driving. Fruit or other light snacks only. I stop about every 100 miles for a "leg shaker". If the sandman hammers me I take a 90-100 minute sleep.
Night driving is the best for getting through major metropolitan areas.Lone Ranger 13, briarhopper and mje Thank this. -
I think most of us have issues in the early morning. Some things can make it worse like sleep aphenea but maybe this isn't a problem maybe its just driving in the dark trust me I run the dakotas cant get much more boring than that
mje Thanks this. -
The hour rite before the sun comes up is the worse! But after it comes up. Its like you get a second wind
mje Thanks this. -
I only ever drive at night if I can possibly help it.
6pm til 6am is the BEST time... until all the "dayshifters" come out.
Less traffic, less cops, scales closed, wheelholders and solar drivers off the road.... what's not to love??Chinatown, Lone Ranger 13 and mje Thank this.
