You are going to run into the same issue that the guys that are pushing the stage 1 cat charger, go a little over those boost levels you will run into intake heat. Not to mention the standard covers on the aftermarket turbos don't flow as well as the CAT covers.

I really wish detroits had a IAT. That would sure tell me a lot of information. The 171702 is fine with heat as far as I know, plotting on the compressor map you stay right within the islands at 1500-1600 rpms. Some guys use it to 600 HP as well, mine is only 550 hp and I'm quite happy with that.

I will get right on both of these for you Allan...I do have to order the V-band flange, it comes out of Florida and will take 2-3 days before I have it all ready to ship. We may want to change over the compressor wheel design for you, the 11+0 blade layout generally is very "soft" on power down low, but it will make up for the flow and efficiency at higher boost levels. You may not see the "peak boost" number from this wheel due to the lower discharge temperatures, but the volume (density) of the air should be better and will net more HP. If we need to change it out in the future, I will help any way I can.

    Thanks,
    Reed

    Update:

We're going to swap the housings Monday as I will be going right by there. Should work out well. Dealing with other issues so I haven't been able to test the 11 blade billet wheel very much, that will probably come later. Right now I'm just focused on keeping the beast rolling, so the stock cast wheel will stay on there for now.

Reed in all your time fooling with the 171702 have you ever tried one of the CAT turbo housings to see if it will fit that wheel and center section. I would think the cover off of a 177148 or 174260 would be very close to fitting.

The compressor covers off of 177148 and 174260 should drop right on to the 171702 core turbo, all three have the 75mm 171691 compressor wheel fitted from the factory.

    HTH,
    Reed
