Just wanted to find out what is the most prevalent transmission used out there. The school used super 10 but they said there isn't alot of super 10 out there. I tried a search and could not find an answer to this. Thanks in advance

Probably a straight 10. If you cut your teeth on a super 10, you probably won't have any trouble with any transmissions out there.

Thanks Muleshoe.

Straight 10 for sure. Then probably 9,13, 18. Lot of 8,9 LLs on dump trucks and other vocational units. I am driving a 12 spd Volvo I auto now. Far superior to any Eaton Auto I ever drove. But they all get the job done one way or another. You will be fine in any of them. Just take it easy until you are familiar with new truck.

Straight 10 or a 9 SPD for sure. You won't have much trouble if you learned on a super 10. Only difference between a super and straight is you have a range selector instead of a splitter. Pattern is still an H but you'll go through the basement flip the range selector and go through the H pattern again. Its a good trans to learn of if you get thrown in a 13 or 18spd. The 15s have pretty much died out. Still around but I don't see many of them in road trucks anymore. They were a goofy tranny anyway IMO. Good luck in your new journey.

10's are real popular with the large carriers. 13's are probably the most popular with O/O spec trucks unless they are doing heavy haul or off-road that can benefit from 18's.
the machinist Thanks this.
