If you are looking for oilfield work on CL just put "oil" in the search under the jobs/transportation section. That gets rid of all the spam posts from the megas. I actually use an app called "cMobile" on my iPhone to look at the listings. It's a great way to bookmark them for the future too.

From a few stories I hear, many people come up here just to catch up on bills because there isnt't work at home. I don't know anyone up here that planned on making a career out of oilfield trucking. I'm sure there are some but I believe most people plan on it being a temporary situation.

Thanks. Wonder if Cmobile has an Android app. I'll def have to check.

BOOMING. maybe.
but the turnover rate is pretty high. -
You got that right but it is the trucking industry, the turnover rate is crazy. We have a guy at our yard who has left 3 times and come back for his old job. Seems like drivers are always looking for $greener$ pastures but in this industry you hear a lot of promises to swing you over then, uh-oh they don't quite happen the way you were told. So I blame the management and recruiters for that turnover too.

At our company we have lots of drivers who have homes and family in other parts of the country. For them, as you mention, this is just a big payday but they seem smart enough to understand you have to strike while the iron is hot and get that $$$ in the bank! Not sure any of us can plan to make a career out of this industry it is so cyclical and all we need is some more banks crashing and currencies popping and dropping, oil will tank and this whole place will get locked down.taz125 Thanks this.

Amen to that Rockdoctor...I'm just hoping i can get my cdl quick enough to get in on some of that action and get out before the crash hits.

Yeah. Some of us remember the early 80s. Rigs told to pull the pipe and stack out. Well not even complete.

They do the same "mass marketing" in several areas, in addition to Corpus. The same ads for US Express, or who ever, pop up in a cycles in all the CL I frequent - Abilene, Dallas, San Antonio, etc.

One thing to remember.
A lot of the guys that go up there can't hold down a regular job back home. They think its big easy money and then reality sinks in when they get up there.
