This pisses me off. These trucks are our homes where we live and our offices where we work. I'd like to see if these idiot Legislators would be willing to cut the heat and air to their homes and offices within the limits they set. They use energy just like our trucks but for them it's ok? We have no excuse to let crap like this happen to us. We've got the tools to organize our efforts with the internet and yet we still take this kind of abuse.

Heh, I almost forgot that those Detroits can run backwards too. I've heard stories from the older drivers that they would have an engine run backwards and suck up rags and paper right into the stack. One driver told me that's what the purpose of the Jacob's Brake was to cut off the air flow to shut the engine down forward or backwards pronto.
Now what some drivers call the "Jakes" is a misnomer. Of course you knew that...

It started with California, the action needs to start there too. Refuse to go to California. If you're applying for a job, make it clear that you don't want any part of going to California. If you own your own truck and trailer, make the message clear on the back of your trailer for everyone else to see (4-wheelers and trucks alike).
Eventally, with enough support, one of three things will happen:
1) The laws will be changed or repealed.
2) Any company that runs to an anti-idle state will have to equip their trucks with some sort of climate control that doesn't use the main engine as a power source.
3) It'll be status quo, and the trucking companies will fill the seats with Mexicans who'll be willing to die of hypothermia to secure a future in the US. In that case... let 'em have it... the country will be in a downward spiral anyhow. -
That's fine for anyone out of California but if you're like me and a resident uh, well, it sucks
-
O/O's will have to purchase a CARB approved APU. There's no way around that issue. CARB is offering a break to those who have to comply. I saw the application while I was at Peterbilt last week.

Yep... run backwards they will. They're really a versatile engine too. They can be made to run backwards on purpose just by swapping a few parts and gears. For example, in a marine application where you have two engines running two out drives turning in opposite directions. There are still quite a few 'Green Grenades' pulling duty in boats.
And by, some drivers call it a "Jake", you mean the emergency air shut-off flap on the blower? LOL... I never heard of it being used as a Jake... but I guess it would work. I'd be afraid of sucking oil from the blower though... they'll self-destruct pretty easy just by running on their own oil. -
Well dang it Ron... you're just gonna have to move to a non-fascist state then, huh?
LOL
Here in LA (Lower Alabama), we can idle our trucks, smoke cigarettes in public and burn our trash in the back yard. Whatta ya think about that? LMAO -
Ron I'm not going to tell you what to do, you'll have to make up your own mind. BUT if you notice on the interstates near CA there is an out bound flood of U-Hauls, Penskes, Ryder, etc moving trucks and once in a while some poor sucker that is headed west.
Personally............... I would have joined the out bound flood a very long time ago.
GOOD LUCK, I think you guys are going to need it. -
What's wrong with this law? At least there ARE exceptions, not like the idiots in California.
LIke others have said, I've seen many trucks idling 24/7 when the temp is around 50 to 60 degrees, there's a breeze and it's not humid at all. Why????? I think 75 is a bit high but at least there IS an exception and they probably won't ticket you if it's 72 or so.
We have 60 degree weather here all the time in the summer, weeks of it, with high humidity and very few people have A/C here. You get used to it. At least you can drive your truck all day and dry everything out so it's dry and comfy when you get into bed.
I think this one is really reasonable, actually. We never idle the truck when it's over 35 degrees until it gets to about 70 to 80 and up. I also have a fan that's powered by a cig. lighter plug that I have run all night if it's a bit "close" inside and it works great.
Compared to Kalifornia, this law at least is quite reasonable. -
When they apply the same laws to the homes that they live in, then I will concede.
And when they remove the burden of cost from the guy who drives the truck, and place it on the consumers who cried for the law to be passed, then I'll concede.
Until then, they can apply their lips to the orifice where the poop comes out.
