    Hey Sassy~
I was really bummed to hear you left.... :biggrin_2557:You had a lot going on though and its all so daunting at first. If not down right scary. Sometimes all the what if's are just enough to freak you out, I know I had a few of those.

I wish you all the best in your future as well as your husband! Its funny I was in Nursing school and realized I wasnt tough enough emotionally for that job and switched and you are doing the opposite! :biggrin_2559: Ya just never know! Good Luck and please dont be a stranger!

so you both are going to be student drivers?

one thing they didn't touch on in my orientation was how important the progress report and backing log were. I didn't get either when I came out of lakeland. luckily my second trainer had some to spare and got enough documentation on me to get me up to 'qualified' status.

those two things are important as well as your practice log, keep it up to date and filled out. when you test out and you don't have any of these items, it equates to 4 hours of CBTs, but if you have all of them it's about an hour.

remember when you guys get out on your own it's not a 10 hour break, it's a 10 hour and 8 minute break(it has to be more then 7 1/2 minutes), the system takes 15 minutes automatically for your VI in the morning. I've had 3 log violations for this offense, I guess I'm a slow learner :biggrin_2559:

and another thing don't forget to turn in a macro 46 at the end of your driving shift, I've not done that one at least a dozen times :biggrin_25513:

Thanks for the tips, I will pass them on to my hubby. But no we are not both going to be student drivers now. I decided that driving was not for me and I came home. I got back to Texas last night.

Jeremiah called me earlier today and said things are going great! He has been doing the 45 degree backing today and he said that he hasn't had any problems with it. Jeremiah has driven a truck before, it has just been several years ago, but he said it is all coming back to him. He didn't drive for very long before either, so he is still very new to all of this!

I miss him terribly already but I know this is what is best for us in the long run. I am flying back up to Omaha in 3 weeks to see him and get the car. I can't wait!!!!! :yes2557:

Im glad to hear Jeremiah is doing good in class. Give him our best wishes! Truck driving is a learned skill... IF you have common sense and understand your own mortality, the rest can be learned.

What part of Texas are you guys from again?

Thanks K&J. He is actually doing wonderful and still loving it! He told me that when he gets on the truck and I go with him, he is going to show me a few tricks and he hopes that I will get more comfortable with the truck. I told him that we will see and you never know. The more I am around the truck maybe the better I will feel about it.

Honestly, the thing that worried me the most was having to go out with a trainer for almost 2 months, by myself. If I just wait then eventually Jeremiah will be able to train me. I told him that I might be willing to go to school and then help drive some. I don't think I would want to be a true team, but I would be willing to do some highway driving and no backing!!! :biggrin_25516: LOL!!! I would just basically be helping to get a few more hours in every day.

We are from far North Texas, about an hour north of Dallas. We are right on the border of Texas and Oklahoma. We don't see many IDC trucks on Hwy 75 here, but there have been a few, and we do see more over on I35. On Sunday when Jeremiah was taking me to the airport in Omaha, NE we were on I80 and passed quite a few IDC trucks then. I always wonder if it is you!!! :biggrin_25525:

    Sassy:

A lot of the initial posts on this Werner thread mentioned the difficulty in getting miles for a solo. Your hubby is now solo, correct? Is he having any problems getting the miles he wants as a solo?

If I do this there won't be anyone by my side, but otherwise Werner seems solid. I am hesitant to take a job with them as a solo if I cannot get miles.

I can't help you much because hubby is still in school and not out on his own yet. All I can tell you is hearsay, everyone at the school is either a friend/relative of a Werner driver, you see you have to be referred in order to qualify for this particular program. So, I heard lots of tales from the relatives of other drivers. According to them solo drivers got all the miles that they want. But I have also heard something that is very interesting. For new drivers out of their school Werner assigns your pay and what division you are in based on how you do at the school. So if you are a top student you are pretty much going to get all the miles you want and you get top pay. Now if you aren't doing so good then you get put on the bottom of the list. I don't know if that is only students from that school or not. Some of the instructors at the school did confirm this rumor, but again it is just what I heard.

For an update on Jeremiah: he is doing wonderful. When they go out on the road driving they are scored from 1 - 5 with 5 being the worst and supposedly they never give a 1. Well, Jeremiah scored a 2.3 on his 3rd day on the road. Not too bad I must say! I am so proud of him. But being apart is just plain torture. I can't wait for the first of March to get here so that I can go see him!

On Thursday night they had homework to plan out a trip with all the turns marked, miles driven and low clearances. He said that he did ok on this. Now on Monday he has to go drive the route and the instructor said if they get lost they have to find their own way back. That makes Jeremiah nervous but I told him that I am sure he will do just fine.

He also said they had to watch a defensive driving video and that it really scared everyone! He said that most of them thought they were pretty safe up in the truck and that the drivers dont usually get hurt. Well the video told them that drivers are usually the ones who get hurt the worst. I don't know if that is true or not but it sure freaked everyone out! :biggrin_2551:

Well that is all for now. I am going to hit the hay. Nighty Nite!

    Sassy,

Glad to hear Jeremiah is doing well. Sounds like he's doing great in class. I'm sure he won't get lost on his trip out as long as he mapped it good, and pays attention to where he's at. He'll do fine. Plus he'll have the added benefit of being up higher and being able to see road and street signs better than if he were in a four wheeler.

I guess watching that video wasn't fun. But look at it this way, he'll have a really good idea about what can happen. My hubby and I have a friend who was hurt pretty bad in his big truck while trying to miss a car full of teenage girls that swerved over the center line. He ditched it rather than hit the oncoming car. It wasn't pretty. Thankfully our friend is alive and well now.

Keep us posted on how he's doing. We're all wishing him the best of luck.

This makes perfect sense. In a good sized company, that is what I would do with the range of recruits--rank them in some way, and put them in a situation where they will be happy.

    Interested in your ongoing reporting.
