Really how so? When you've got a shipper that has a load going from Atlanta to say Jessup Md. The receiver in Md. says I need that load by midnight...the shipper says NO Problem ( NOW , here comes the lie )...got the truck sitting at my dock ready to load. This is at 12 noon...you know that with traffic and all its gonna take at the very least 9 to 10 hrs. for that truck to arrive...on a good day...with zero problems, light traffic , and zero breaks for the driver.....you also know that crap happens everyday , thousands of times a day...the law of supply and demand my friend...been that way since before the advent of the internal combustion engine , and when truckers trade in their CDL's for their CFL's (commercial fliers license) it will still be that way.

I need 6 hours of sleep. I do my post trip if I find anything I get it in. While work is being done I nap. 6 hours of sleep is great get up go for a walk get the cob webs out and I am good to go quick check of the lights and I hit the road.

Be careful with that CFL...I have one of those...right along with every bull hauler and chicken hauler in the country
. Seriously though I do understand what you're saying as I have been there before in the past. That was a broker not a shipper...Although the shippers ####### decided to call the broker before I'd even started strapping my load down and said I was about to leave before I'd even tarped the load. I didn't manage to leave until almsot 5:30 P.M. Now it's a 400 mile trip, I'll be ###### if I'm going through KC at 5:30 and running up 29 so I took 24 over to 75 and ran up 77 to 80. My phone rang at 10 PM and I got the ### chewing of a lifetime from the customer as to why my truck hadn't arrived yet with his load because the shipper and broker had informed him I left at 4.
Said sir I just started tarping at 4. He wasn't having any of it and wanted his load. I ended up getting there at midnight. That day I got up at 6, logged at 7:45 pti, and left at 8 A.M. finally got back home at 4 AM. All that because people didn't know that drywall compound freezes and some people don't want to check the weather. And the customer and broker both said they wanted me to get out before an Ice storm hit.
sure whatever ya'll say they were worried about their freight freezing in 10 hours. Happens every day and then the broker took 58 days to pay me!!! I did my job and got the load delivered, and he takes 58 days to pay me. Needless to say I shredded that carrier agreement, and served him with my letter.

the rolling ten, what is that exactly? Do you mean, wake, do your 11 driving, or what you can, and immediately start your ten, moving the time you start and end your ten by a couple hours each day?
-
Pretty much.
-
Ok.
I have never done that, not regularly. Mine all depends on what load I am on and when I need to get up to get it there. I like to read, so I will read a bit to wind down, clean the truck if its messy, and then try to sleep no less than 7. -
It really only works when running solo on a 3+ day load.
-
I work when I can and take my 10 when I have to. Unless I have to wait for an apt I deliver early. The only time I will sit on an extra delivery time load is if it happens to go past home and I can spend a few hours with the family. I can sleep anytime and drive anytime, but when I sleep I need at least 6 consecutive hours. A 1 hour nap will leave me more tired when I wake than if I just stayed awake. My 0 hour generally consists of my post trip, a shower if I'm at a truck stop, some tv and sleep. And I get up an hour before I drive, need time to wake up. I can't just get up, get dressed, and drive.

OK kids--I don't care how you log or what you do--just gonna throw this out--food for thought--and remember--not bein high and mighty--there aint a logbook trick I dont know--and aint a gam I havent played over the years---BUT--to take the point of running like that to the next level--Audits are meaningless--the DOT is meaningless--we ALL know how to cover our butts in those situations--or at least those of us who do/have run like that
BUT--what you MUST keep in mind! Is other accidents incidents--especially in CIVIL procedings--then all the tricks are out the window! Since the other guys attorney--IS NOT REQUIRED to play by the same rules--YUP--the ####### standing on the truck hood on the billboard etc--He will and can subpeona all your records--he is not held to going back 7 days--HE CAN go back forever--he can a nd will subpeona--every receiver shipper etc you were at for a couple of weeks before the incident---yup--the one the OTHER guy was cited for along with his drunk driving arrest--when he ran UNDER your truck while you were stopped for a red light.........
So yall do what you want--this is just food for thought....BUT something all yall still running like we did for years--need to keep in mind and pay very close attention to....
Carry OnSlowPoke44magnum Thanks this.
