Looking for some radio suggestions here. Want to get a new radio soon and I was looking at the Cobra 29s. I'm just not sure which one to get. The Cobra 29LTD Classic is actually in my price range on sale right now, but I also kind of like the looks of the 29LX. I like the option of the different colors on the LX. As I understand it, they are basically the same radio internally, just the different face externally. What are your opinions on these radios? Also, are the Unidens in the same price range as the Cobras any good?

I'm not looking for anything fancy with all those stupid bells and whistles. Just a good basic radio to communicate cleary with.

Right now, I have a small Midland that is just a piece of junk. Bought it new and half the time I can only hear one side of a coversation, even if both drivers are sitting in the same lot I am. I understand that some (or most) of that issue could be with the antenna system of the truck, but this was always a temporary radio anyways (although it's going on three years now.)

I've also got another issue. I went from a 2012 Cascadia with the antennaes mounted on the side of the cab and the radio worked to a 2014 Cascadia with no externally mounted antennaes at all. It still has the stock hook-up on the dash just like my old truck, but the radio just didn't seem to be getting out. I can't hear anything at all and no one seems to hear me (not that I would know anyway.) I got one of those bird perch mount bars that replaces one of the mounting screws on the mirror and mounted a 4ft (I think. Maybe 5ft?) Firestix antenna with 18ft of coax cable. Now every once in a while I'll get a little blurb out of the radio, but not very much and still no one seems to hear me. I have not had the srw's checked yet, because if the antenna needs to be tuned, I want it tuned to the Cobra. Did I burn up my little radio before I set up the antenna? Is this antenna going to work ok with the Cobra? Which Cobra should I get? Will Leanard and Penny finally tell each other how they truly feel?

    Thanks for any help!

The Cobra 29 LX also gives you the weather channels, channel scan, frequency readout, etc.

The 29 classic doesn't. (some give you weather channels) but they have that 1970's look to them.

Yes the Uniden radios are every bit as good as the Cobras and IMO are better than the Cobras.

Not sure on your other questions. You sure the coax is any good?

And yes a high SWR can kill a radios transmit range and ultimately, kill the final all together.

If you want one with Weather Channels get the Cobra 29 WXNWST, it's a good one.

I've used both the cobra classic and fancy digital, both performed the same. Just a preference for you to decide.

FYI, SWR is not matched to any specific radio, get your antenna tuned before you start chatting on any radio. The Cobra 29's have a meter setting for this, if your unable to get antenna below 1:3.0 (I prefer < 1:2.0) seek help from CB shop.

Cobra is without any doubt is a great radio. Money is the key. Galaxy & Delta Force are big Boy radios. SSB is nice, Cops have radios also, most don't have side band. Handy if you get lost & "miss" a scale. I'm starting to like being retired. South bound, what is the coop doing? 35 miles out. :biggrin_25524: 37,000 on the drives. And it's Sunday. Drivers know what I mean.
