Ive been looking at used trucks with the c15 accerts in them. Ive found some for sale. They all have around 700, 000 miles on them. Ive always been under the assumption that most engines normally last around a million miles before a rebuild is needed. I know anything you buy is a risk and this wont be my first truck purhase but its nice to see what other peoples views are on things.

a million miles was more common in the pre emission engines, if the truck you are looking at has 700 000 miles on it you can figure a rebuild in the next 2 years, not saying they can last beyond that, just saying this be a safe bet. but there should be some out there available with rebuilt engines, some have the platinum rebuild with remaining warranty

Just an opinion but when buying an truck that has had a overhaul with or without paper work I think its best to see at least 50 to 60 thousand miles since work was done. Even the dealers have new guys or butchers that know it that can't fix viagra induced blood flow with a set of instuctions. If ther is problems they should be surfaced by that many miles. I have seen some poorly done that even when redone 30k later just wasn't right. Warranty is a good thing setting in shop using said warranty a lot would get old.

I have a 2004 C15 Accert in my truck and when I asked the same question at my local Caterpillar shop the mechanic told me that they see some make it over 1 million miles but on average you should expect around 900,000 miles. Having said that I know a guy who pulls tanker and he is pushing 1.1 million and still going strong.
