I have been in the chemical industry now for atleast 6 years. I am starting to get tired of the tanker industry, the pay is ok but its not what it use to be and seems to be alot more hassle than what its worth now. Like today I got to my destination in greensboro NC, was suppose to be there for 12 but got there like 3 hours early, afterwards I was suppose to run over to kingsport TN get washed out and be ready to pick up a load on monday at 7 a.m. heading back home to Louisiana but the plant started having trouble with thier pump didnt get out of plant till 2 p.m. and the tank wash closed at 3 p.m. and on top of it they are closed tomorrow and wont be back till 7 a.m. on monday so you can see how this could be alittle upsetting. In the past years I have seen chemical hoses bust open and people get sprayed with acid and be sent to the hospital(those chemical suits dont always stop everything). Imagine being in central florida/ or Arizona in the middle of july or august with a full chemical suit and googles on and hard hat with a splash shield over your face for 2 hours straight talk about rapid weight loss plan lol. I only get paid 37 cents per mile right now and a few weeks ago I had to transport a load of carbonic acid(phenol) a class 6 poision. I have 3 small children and a wife at home, I want to get away from tankers but worried about not making an income thats enough to pay the bills I have if I would go to hauling dry van/reefer/flat bed. If there is one thing I know is that every driver has a different experience with each company, one guy will say yeah thats the best company ive ever worked for and another will say its the worst, and we all know the little books with the advertisements in them at these truck stops all tell the same lies great pay/home time/ and respect. The only thing a person can do is listen and then it will eventually lead to him taking a leap of faith one way or another. So if anyone has some good advise for me please let me know, if its about a company whats your average mileage per week/ cent per mile/ over all experience. Thank you all
good bye to being a tanker yanker

You can haul more then chemicals in a tanker propane stills pays descent and don't have to worry about washouts.

Well, I don't drive for them any longer..(but only because my 3year old grandson was left with me while on Hometime and no one ever came to pick him up)
Give American Central Transport a call (ACT) if you are in there hiring area, it's a good place to call home. -
it might help if you post where you live and what you need per week on your paycheck ?
-
Baton Rouge, LA and income between no less than $800 a week before taxes but $1,000 is more the goal
-
I would say call jb hunt and apply for a container driver, most are regional with them and pay about $1000.00 a week

It's going to be hard to beat what you have now. Those chem suits are vicious; whew, South Texas or Phoenix or Las Vegas in July! It's a little unnerving also if the company doesn't pressure test the hoses when they're scheduled.
You can do pretty good with flatbed, but some of that freight gets super slow at times. Maverick, TMC, Melton Truck Lines have some pretty good paychecks, but also hit some dry spells. Melton has the best healthcare coverage for the driver & family.
Personally, I would stick it out with tankers & for more hometime maybe some local fuel hauling. Probably do better financially with compressed gases, such as Praxair or similar companies.
Maverick drivers post they make over a grand a week. TMC drivers post they make over $50K and so do Melton drivers, even though Melton admits things have been slow recently. -

Sounds like you should look for another company. .37 is real low for hazmat chemical work. Superior Carriers has a terminal in St Gabrial and would start you at .47 loaded .40 empty. Every terminal is different but I haul less than 25% hazmat.

looked at maverick last year the only thing I didnt like about them was the week long orientation plus I was going to have to spend another week in little rock learning to strap down loads because I have no recent xp in flatbed and what experience I do have is just hauling chemical totes basicly back and forth between baton rouge and houston.Wsyrob yes I know the cpm is low but I also get an extra $40 per load just for doing a live load and unload, plus $900 bonus ever quarter. I looked at Superior carrier before, a guy handed me a pamplet loading in shell in geismar one day but I dont recall it saying anything about 47 cpm loaded and 40 cpm empty, im with Fort Transfer right now out of morton IL, but the big thing is not finding something that pays more hauling tankers but something hauling something else along the same lines as what I make now
