^not my words, the thoughts of a couple fellow carhaulers^ but definitely echoes my thoughts on this. Can't count how many times someone went home because I (or another driver,) was paying attention and managed to avoid making your bad day much worse. This guy didn't have the chance to avoid this, he says he'll likely not drive again, and he did nothing wrong, just happened to be the one there to cash the check someone's stupidity had written. Think people, THINK!
This pretty much echoes what I put up on FB. This carhauler was clean as whistle, and his life will never be quite the same through no fault of his own. You can tell by the way the truck is "planted" in the car that the car had very little momentum at the moment of impact, they were all but stopped as they crossed in front of him. Say a prayer for him and for the families of the 2 people in the car.

Wow. I'm so sorry he's dealing with this. I can never understand some of the things 4 wheelers do. Even before I dated a trucker, I would look at some of the crud that they'd pull and shake my head and thank my preferred deity that the truckers were good enough drivers to prevent an accident that they should never had needed to prevent to begin with.

that's tragic . ..thoughts to all involved, especially the driver.
I just told CS the other day (as I had to deal with Chicago) that it seems the key to safe driving is patience, which it seems most people lack these days...and as a result end up losing their life, and destroying others...Last edited: Sep 8, 2013

I know there were several times I missed obliterating some idiot by a split second. What really really really got my goat was when they had kids in the backseat. I don't think I'd mind too much wiping out an idiot who got what he/she deserved. But when they drag innocents along for the ride, totally different story. Those little kids have no control over who's driving them.

Reading this and seeing the picture made the hair on my arms and neck stand up. Poor driver my prayers go out to him while he is going through this deviststing time. People don't seem to realize we do have a heart, we do have feelings and things do bother us. I hate to see him end his career over this. Although I cannot imagine what he is going through at this time. I wish him the best. It is a sad situation.

Theses are the types of things that I don't tell my wife about. She's already scared enough about what we do for a living.
Hammer166 Thanks this. -
I see people all the time make U-turns in interstate medians because they missed their exit or because traffic is stopped. I've seen too many close calls because they don't pay attention, I wish just once, when a vehicle makes a U turn like that and it's marked "Authorized Vehicles Only" they get wrote for it.
truckon Thanks this. -
Been there...equally bad ending....just depends on the carhauler's background and mental attitude...also how well his friends help him deal with this. It will take some time and personal introspection, but his driving "habits" will most certainly change when he does come back.
Hammer...go ahead and give him my phone number if he wants to talk with someone who does know what he is going through! -
This just goes to show we not only have to deal with idiots, bad drivers, angry drivers, etc, but there are others out here that are perhaps not altogether mentally and/or physically. This car had handicapped tags on it, probably/maybe an older driver who may have been having a less than optimal day mental acuity-wize. Plus, a lot of older people are dealing with cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye diseases, and simply don't see as well as they want to or all they think they're seeing.
We can't naturally assume they "see us" once it appears eye-contact is made or they appear to be looking in our on-coming direction. -
While the issues with older drivers do exist, it's unfair to assume that just because a car has handicapped tags the driver is automatically older/unable to drive. My car has handicapped tags on it. I'm a healthy, non-disabled woman in her late 30's who happens to have an 11 year old son that uses a wheelchair. The tags on my car in no way indicate that I'm ill suited to driving.
