It's different from company to company you would have to get with your terminal or operations manager But for the most part you would have to have a certain experience level and get certified from your director of safety

maverick is 1. 5wk. in the "barn" hands on securment training. then 3-5weeks with a trainer. depends on how you do and if trainer is comfortable sending you on your own. there is NO team driving! trainers are fired if they do it. I know ive seen it! im a trainer here 5yers total driving and maverick is a minimum of 1.5-2 years with them before they even consider ya to be a trainer, also have to have a clean driving record great mpg oor an all that. but like any company there are good an bad trainers here. 95% are great they really care about the student and how they do. like I tell my students idk how well your doing your with me 5wks I want them to experience all the situations and loads as possible wbike with me so when there solo they know how to react or how to do the securments with no questions. but thats me!

    Hi all,

I have read so much about trainers. My hubby should graduate from orientation at the end of next week, and then be off with a trainer. Now I am really concerned about this whole situation. We are both new to this and being the wife at home. I feel like calling him and telling him to RUN!! Hopefully his trainer will be decent. I think we can live with most issues as long as his trainer is safe and attentive. I don't want to mention his company since I'm not sure he would want me too. My question is, what options does he really have if his trainer is awful? I know him and if his trainer is bad, he will probably just suck it up which may not be safe for him.

Anyway I appreciate any input! I am truly nervous about this whole thing!!

You can put up with a trainer that is awful but not one that is not safe. If your company wants you to continue driving with an unsafe trainer.....run.

Wow, this thread has been an eye opener. I always envisioned trainers as being someone with mega years of experience and a knack for teaching like the FTO ( Field Training Officer) I had as a snot nose rookie just outta the academy. He taught me a lotta things.

I only have a little over 6 months solo and although I feel confident in my abilities behind the wheel I still have rookie moments periodically through the week. there is no way in HE!! id feel qualified to give driving advice to a "newer" driver. im still learning things myself!

You know because trucking is going like getting and keeping a pilots license, there should be a license to train like a certified flight instructor.

Sometimes encouragement is the best advice you can give to a newer driver.
