Ok. It's this simple. It's $35 at the Petro single out. It's almost $700 for a tire. If your weight is not an issue and your company has many tires back at the yard WHY spend $700 when you don't have too. Oh I crossed several scales on that trip too. Load was only 32000 so it was not an issue
no tire on rim

I've fixed plenty of things on my own that many guys would sit and wait for. Sometimes you have to think outside the box. Like the time I had a trailer marker light go out. I replaced it by using the catwalk at the self service truck wash at the t a in mt vernon, MO.Guntoter, Hammer166 and cetanediesel Thank this.

Every truck should have a crow bar.
It is illegal to run on a flat, blown, or shredded tire. But running with no tire, seen it done. But, here is the rub, any driver who has been around knows when a tire is unsafe. It does actually require walking back to the rear (not for the lazy) and actually checking them rubber things not once a day but several times when the thread depth is at 2/32 or worse. Using a tire gauge once in a while would help you get the psi where it needs to be. Considering the cost of a single plus the shop time....It can't hurt to do what your paid to do at least once a day. But hey, if your too busy to worry about saving money, keep on driving till it explodes.
EZ Money and classic_150 Thank this. -
I had a trailer tire explode 8 miles west of Gallup, NM. I singled it out and took the back road directly behind the scale that was 4 miles from Gallup, NM.

Nobody chased me down because I was in stealth mode

What is different about running Super Singles than running a singled out tire ? So long as the weight does not exceed the tire's capacity that is printed on the sidewall, and all other weights are OK, get the bad tire off, make sure the pressure is correct in the one you leave on, and get back trucking.I have done it many times, no big deal.

I've had trailer tires singled out before. I had an 11r 17.5 grenade on a trailer one day in Lasalle/Peru IL. Called everywhere, there wasn't one to be had for miles... Singled it out and went on my way. Passed many cops... nothing said.

U must have over 100PSI in the single tire. 2 b OK
