It's not a Police radio, it's a weather Radio. And yes I have a 2M & a 10M in my truck. The weather radio is like my other radios, just don't transmit. Now my Glock, LOL

The FCC issued PR Docket No. 91-36 back in 1993 giving licensed Amateurs a limited exemption for Amateur transceivers that can receive police frequencies. It does not exempt scanners, nor unlicensed Amateur transceivers.

The chance of getting caught is very low, but it's not zero.

Yea, I hear ya' with the fun stuff but there really is a place that was cracking down, I think it was somewhere in Virginia where some cop/DOT cop (perhaps a ham operator?) was breaking driver balls in regard to linears and export radios.

I had a pretty elaborate set up in my company truck several years ago: had a custom aluminum cabinet (with locking door) that I had mounted on the floor board in front of passenger seating. Contents included Yaesu FT 450, Yaesu 2900, Cobra CB, Uniden 996XT Digital Scanner with GPS, Kenwood D710A (using aprs and still do) and a Radio shack PRO 2006. The few times that DOT/Highway Patrol would climb onto my truck, the very first thing that they would see and sometime hear were the 996XT going off, the CB and maybe the FT 450. Their reaction, priceless "holy cow who are you trying to contact son, aliens", my reply, yes sir indeed can I show you how? The majority would not know what to say or respond, a few knew about amateur radio and would ask about my license/call sign. But more often than not, most officers knew about the 996XT scanner because at the time it was the top dog (I know its not Motorola) for retail scanners used by many police, fire and EMS personnel. My ham license was sufficient enough for them. There were two States that would or could confiscate regardless; VA, and MN. There may be other policies in those States now.
