So I called 3 separate AB Registry offices & spoke to 3 managers, they all told me not to worry about the 183 day rule... as long as BC remains your primary residence & you haven't "moved" to Alberta. Not sure if this clears up the issue or just muddies the water a little bit more.

co worker hit an elk in hinton in november couple years ago...lives in prince george, works here in alberta...
couldnt figure out why it took so long for icbc to get his claim goin
6 wks later they say theyre not fixing his vehicle, been in alberta 183 days
wtf???
he told them he works 20 on 10 off, they did the math
he was lucky to have had an injury in the spring and missed 2-3 months work, taking him under the 183 days...
he presented his information, boom, they fixed his truck. -
the system isnt set up for living in bc but working in ab
the guys i know that have ab reg/lic/ins...it cost them all more money than bc...but i cant see how your legal in bc...all these guys file their taxes from their homes in bc...
i get the point of it, alberta wants the money for road use, etc...but in my case i dont drive my car at all for the 3wks a month that im here, so im not using their road like they think i am
you best believe im extra cautious at this time of the year from here to the bc border -
Did he have Territory Z... or was this ICBC just trying to weasle out of paying for another claim?

And even if you were driving your car on the AB roads every day, it's not like your hammering them with an over-size load. I read a while back of an AB company (can't remember the name now) that provides all flights & AB transportation so as guys can avoid the head-ache of insurance issues.

had territory z
i saw all his ins papers and the letters icbc wrote him -
and you cant even prove you didnt drive your car to and from for a certain period, say car pool with a co worker, take the bus, fly in, etc....except un insuring your car
-
And two days ago I spoke with with ICBC head office, and he knew nothing of the 183 day rule - I guess they save it until it comes time to deny a claim! This makes me wanna just fly in and take a taxi everywhere, but that seems a crazt thing to do just because the insurance regs between the 2 provinces are so unclear.

still havent met a broker that knows aboot it
every new guy we get, i tell them aboot it, their broker knows nothing aboot it.
yer legal again come jan 1st, take her easy til then -
one of the AB registry managers I spoke to was sure it was 183 consecutive, not cumulative days. To heck with it, just gonna get territory z and like you said... take it easy until the new year.
