Company drivers are out a minimum of 3 weeks, with 1 day off for every week out.

    Hello everyone,

I am a former driver (last drove vans OTR in '02) looking to come back out on the road. I know I will need to start from zero; flatbedding is my intention. Now what I want to talk about is this: Is it nuts to wanna start off in the winter? I am looking at coming to Prime (PSD, the works) in December or January. My line of thinking is I will get the handholding with the winter driving (have never done much of that) and come out of training in time for clear weather. It is my nature to tackle the toughest jobs first. I know securement and winter driving together might make for a heavy plate. I learn better this way.
Another thing I'm curious about: the HOS are very different than when I last drove. When I trained we ran 5 on/5 sleeper berth for a long time. How do the TNT trainers usually arrange the driving shifts? Thanks for any comments,

yes it will be a lot to tackle tarpping is the most difficult part of it. I am going in to my first winter right now and can tell you that tarpping is the pain in the arse since in winter most loads will be tarpped. TnT trainers set their own drive shifts some drive at night so you can get the real feel for the road others have you drive at night till you get the hang of securement and tarpping. I can say this is a good program and the safty tools offered are top notch. Make sure to read the thread by Silent Eagle about what to expect lots of good info there. now I will drive 3-5 hours 30 min off then finish out my 10 or 11 if the load requires it.

    Freezer Burn Thanks this.

I have to stay thank you to everyone on here. I've been lurking for a little while researching and you guys/gals have helped me with ALOT of information. Will be hopefully going FB with Prime right after the New Year. Being that I will be new to trucking, the wait for me is like Freezer Burn said above, gonna take advantage of winter driving with a mentor in the next seat!! Thanks again everyone.

    Hey y'all,

Thank you for all the great insight into Prime and FB. I'm headed out to Missouri in about two weeks to start orientation and want to jump right into training in the flatbed division, as that is where I want to end up. Does anyone know if it is possible to begin training with a flatbed instructor your first month out? I'm ready to get my hands dirty and keep real busy so going right into it would be great.

I'm looking forward to it all, that's for sure.

You can start with a flatbed instructor if there is one available.
