That's funny, I just spent a few days running around the souteast and was thinking if I got a steady diet of this I might have to leave. While the NE isn't my first choice, I will take that over the southeast anyday. Guess to each his own.

Thanks to everyone for the 411. I posted this post last fall. I still have not made it back to driving school. Owning my own business and getting it closed up has slowed down that process. I am scheduled to start driving school the 23rd of this month. If all goes well I will be driving for Roehl. I am still thinking the midwest van division or now I qualify for a dedicated fleet out of Granite CIty as long as their is a position open when I get out of training. Both have good hometime but on the Roehl.jobs website it says the granite city job averages around 850/week and the midwest van regional pays 650/week. I stopped driving otr over 10 years ago and back then I always made more than 650/week. Does anyone have an idea on what a midwest regional drive can earn with Roehl? I have read a some info on the facebook page in regards to the GC fleet and it sounds like a good fleet to be on. Maybe I will do the GC fleet if there is an open spot when I am ready to get my truck. I live right in the middle of Illinois around Decatur so I imagine this is a good area for either fleet. If anyone has some advice for me I would love to hear it.

I told Roehl this week to switch me to the Granite City dedicated fleet. I like national 11/3 but hate east coast & Canada (headed there now) and not a fan of driving at night, which happens couple times a month on national. Like the idea of getting home once a week and restocking truck so I can avoid TS food, kiss the wife, mow the lawn, see the Grandkids, pay the bills and leave before I get into trouble.

Thanks for the info OSU! I always liked going to the east. 11 years ago I was running a dedicated run out of central Illinois to New York City every week. I always liked going to NYC because I could make more money with NYC pay. When you ran the national fleet how are they about getting you home around your scheduled time off. I know they say work 11 off 3 but does the 11 normally end up being 14?I ask because inexperienced drivers can get on the national curtain side fleet. I like flat bed freight more than van freight and if I can get in around day 11 or 12 with 3 days off my family and I can live with that. One more question is the three days three 24 hour periods or is it half a day full day half a day kind of thing. When I drove before I always got home on the weekends but a weekend was anytime after noon on saturday to sometime Sunday.

Usually home the 11th or 12th day, rarely been 13 and never 14. Depends on FM from what I can tell. 24 hour days from time you get parked but varies with FM. They do try to get you back ASAP, but you just have to say you need the time.

Thank ya OSU that sounds good. I know from past driving experience I would rather have three full days off at home than just do a drive by each weekend. I think the curtain side fleet is the direction I will go. I am excited to get back on the road. The last time I drove a truck was August of 2002. My first driving job was with Roehl 20 years ago which do go as I planned so I want to make that right. Back then when hired on you went out with a trainer for 4 weeks then you teamed up with another trainee for 4 more weeks before they sent you out on your own. Once you got your own truck it was an old beat up International cabover with the old two tone red and white paint. I just hope I can pass the physical. I can pass a DOT physical but Roehl and most companies go beyond the DOT physical. Then there's the whole CPAP thing now. My recruiter has said as long as I get the 6 month card that will get me hired then Roehl helps the whole cpap issue. I am 240 5'10 and my dress shirt neck size is 17.5 so I imagine a cpap machine is in my future. I guess that is not all bad. If it makes ya sleep better and all then sign me up I guess. OSU if you send me you 411 I can tell recruiter you talked me into Roehl. I might even get through the house during the week according to the Roehl website because I live in Illinois. I plan on starting a new thread about the life and times of getting signed up with Roehl.

I ran MWR from 2/12-11/12. Averaged 2500 a week in Monday-Sat AM. Once nailed 2800 miles. Mostly stayed Midwest, but somehow ended up in PA... a lot. The money was good, but hated the 34 hr - 38 hr home times.
