My pay for that year was based on the fact that I worked alot of extra days because I was paying for two houses, not to many guys are willing to work that hard. Alot of the new guys are making twice what they did where they were before Walmart so they are in heaven at 75-85k. My teamster checks were 88k but thats before all the benifits, you know the benefits add another 20k or so. Another thing is I also had all the extra bills you get living in So Cal,season tickets to Disneyland as well as some other things come to mind. If I had to pick a safe number I would say 85k a year is very easy to do even in your first year at Walmart, but thats with alot of long weekends and comp time off. Pay is based off miles, worktime and about a half dozen other little things.
The minimum requirements are just that and are really just a number they use to keep the FNG riff raff out. The six people in my class all had 20+ years and well over 2 million miles. Now like I said they have backed down the standards a little because they need to fill seats. With growth and retirements they really have to hussle to avoid hiring outside carriers. I will tell you that they really dont like having to hire peak flow help but the stores need freight. Alot of the outide carriers you see are on contracts that cover grocery DC's,both dry and perishable.mje Thanks this. -
You get paid a lot more than just by the mile. You get layover pay, stop pay, live load pay, live unload pay, drop pay, hook pay, unscheduled time pay, weekend mileage premium, claims premium, etc.
There is a lot more to truck driving than just driving.mje, TomOfTx, Desert_Skies and 1 other person Thank this. -
My advice is if you leave that teamster gig you go to the private fleet. Any carrier doing contract work for Walmart could lose that work the next time its up for bid. I saw two carriers in one year at the grocery DC that covers the dry grocery in So Cal and Vegas.
Where are you on your board,it might be better to leave if you could get on with Walmart. You will do well but those whiskers mean an awful lot once you hit the 17 year mark.mje Thanks this. -
I just got your point on that one....200 is chump change! If those guys only knew that the Walmart driver that just spent 15 minutes doing the drop and hook next to them was making 300-400 a day they would be re-thinking that 200.interpreter and MidwestResident Thank this.

Oh I wouldn't go to a outside carrier.. Lol I'm 70 out of 100 on the board.. I've had a bid the last year and half but this bid I went back to the extra board and it sucks.. Lol I'm thinking about applying but I need to get my hazmat back.. I let it go a few years back.. B4 this job I was pedaling furniture up the east coast out of nc.. So I didn't need the hazmat.. Wish I would've kept it..
mje Thanks this. -
You can apply now and then get your hazmat. You just need to have it before you go the first interview, which will likely be about 6 weeks after you apply. That is what I did!
Kevin horn and mje Thank this. -

Lasagna day.

Today is my Friday, and I told the wife that I think I need to walk home.
I live 120 miles from the DC. I had lasagna at Casa Grande, and had lasagna at Buckeye.
I only intended on having a piece of cake, but they still have so much lasagna left. So, I figure I will have a small piece. You know, a small piece in that huge pan of lasagna looks awful large on a plate. I think I'm gonna die (spoken like Rosanne Rosannadanna for those of you old enough). LOL
I hope I make it home without falling asleep.
I cleaned the truck real nice, but it still smells like lasagna inside.
Anyway, a big shout out to all drivers, on our driver appreciation week.................... no matter who you drive for. May all of your companies feed you way too much good food, and make you all feel like you need to spend a week at the gym !!! Now, for the drive home................ wish me luck !!!mje Thanks this. -
Ice cream yesterday, burgers and apple pie today, tomorrow spagetti! Thank you drivers for all you do! Hey grabber, by tough week do you mean by all this stopping and eating? I would think so. I could have used that time to go to another store........but it was so darn good!
mje Thanks this.
